Swimming 40:00 [3] 1.3 km (30:46 / km)

Pheonix 50m - loads of drills delaying hand entering water, high elbow, touch back, shoulder, back & shoulder etc. Kicking legs on side without fins was the last straw and go outt 5 mins before the end knackered..
Not great drills for me as I'm aiming for a higher tempo, no pauses and better rotation for a more powerful pull.

Note

79.9 kg dehyrated(?) after training last night, onwards and downwards!?

2 PM

Spinning 5:00 [1]

100 revs at 20 cadence in lowest gear, around 3.5kph. Felt nothing but calf mildy aggravated
7 PM

Swimming 45:00 [3] 1.7 km (26:28 / km)

Pheonix 25m - others had fins during drills and did OK. Only kicking gently to avoid making calf worse.
wu - 100fs, 50pb, 100fs, 50pb.
Varrious drills 50 drill, 50fs
Then 2 sets of 100fs mod, 150pb, 100fs at same stroke rate as pb, 20s rest.
In the zone and got quite competitive on the last 350m and holding my own, legs still weak but now near the surface. Would have struggled with the final 2 x 35i0m indoors 2-3 weeks ago.

Swimming 20:00 [3] 0.6 mi (33:19 / mi)

Lido - 13 degs. Acclimatising - body felt warm enough and concentration on exhalation worked, sun even came out. Ttightening up in chest after 100, so bailed early. Will see next week if a noseclip avoids continuous cold waterr response from nerves in nose.

Swimming 40:00 [3] 1.3 km (30:46 / km)

Pheonix 50m - theme streamlining. 200wu, then 100 drill, 100 normal.
pb, on side 6-3-6, touch shoulder, pb tied legs, touch back, pb bottom up.
Coach decided I was a Swinger with low arms coming round the side. Might explain shoulders aching.
Beginning to kick better and pulling further, definitely more fun in a group too.

Swimming 35:00 [3] 1.3 km (26:55 / km)

Pheonix 25m - Good coach, helpful advice - using pb and rotation, legs, legs, legs, happy with arms.
250 wu, drills with eatra legs, alterante hard/moderate 50,100,200, drills again 150 wd.

Going to change to 2 tri club sessions per week, not sure about continuing prepaid lido sessions.

Swimming 30:00 [3] 1.3 km (23:05 / km)

Lido - 300 wu, 2 x 150, 200 - 4.15 too fast, 400 in 8.50 (200 - 4.23) 100wd
Need to breath out more forcefully, not just evenly. A bit easier getting going today, but took longer to fully relax breathing.

Note

Hever Castle Triathlon on Channel 4 at 7am on Saturday.

Shoulder tightness starting to wear off from Wednesday, need to be careful as feels different to the doms throughout August and September and don't want shoulder issues.

Swimming 50:00 [3] 1.9 km (26:19 / km)

Pheonix SSP 50m - Joined the local tri club until the end of the year. 25 mins of open water practice. Then 50 mins of drills, stopped 10 mins before end due to discomfort in shoulders and loosing form. Good fun and felt comfortable sharing a lane with 8 others of similar ability. Need to kick a lot more!

Monday Oct 13, 2014 #

Swimming 28:00 [3] 1.1 km (25:27 / km)

SSP 25m - 200wu, 3 x 100 around 2.10, then 2 sets of 4 x 50 with 25s rest. 200wd. Concentrating on pull, breathing and legs. Started too fast, hence 50s. Ended up as more of a pull/legs intervals session. Need to work on a steady kick, noticed the difference when it worked.

Saturday Oct 11, 2014 #

Swimming 35:00 [3] 1.4 km (25:00 / km)

Lido - 14 degs - thank goodness I'd bought a neoprene skull cap and socks, didn't stop the lifeguard (twice) and a lady without a wetsuit asking if I was alright. Always had problems with the cold - purple/white hands. 600m wu, including 2 x 150 in 3.09 which seemed far enough. Gave it one last go.

800m in 17.45. 4.19 -200, 6.35, 8.49 - 400m (pb), 11.05, 13.20, 15.35. Pleased to complete 800 and even more so the 100s from 200 to 700 were all at 2.15 pace.

Friday Oct 10, 2014 #

Swimming 30:00 [3] 1.1 km (27:16 / km)

Spectrum 25m - New teacher - lifting head too high and hip is also rotating too high causing legs to splay. Kick needs to be far stronger too. Plenty to work on and explains why b/l breathing has helped speed, but without directly addressing the cause.

Tuesday Oct 7, 2014 #

Swimming 27:30 [3] 1.1 km (25:00 / km)

SSP 50m - calf a lot better so only 25% with pb. In mixed ability fast lane again, not sure what the etiquette is when the swimmer behind taps your feet, but it seemed to work at the turn when they tumble turned past without collision. Finished with 2 x 100 in 2.15, 15s slower than in a wetsuit.

Sunday Oct 5, 2014 #

Swimming 25:00 [3] 1.0 km (25:00 / km)

PLP (25m) - calf still aggravated from last week, so did 50s with pb. Late evening, quite chaotic and ended up in fast lane.
