NOC Strawberry Hill

Had been looking forward to this. Decent run out but overall slightly disappointed with the area and map... though on reflection expecting a bramble free technical oasis for orienteering was somewhat optimistic!

Started well and had my minute man in my sights leaving #3 before being halted by a water pit at the end of a path mid route to #4 [30]
#7 Almost caught my man again at #6, but then left control to south which was slower. Also ran off the map to the north briefly trying to make sense of the mess of tracks [30]
#9 Passed my man finally but then slightly stuck in gorse before flag.
#11 Decent line - hard to maintain direction in heather.
#13 Speedy McCartney flew past.
#17 Unclear exactly what was OOB and bumbled mid route [20]
#19 Dithered on route choice leaving previous control. In the end route seemed ok? [40]
#21 Tired; poor bearing and pushed off line by brash; added climb of embankment then more brash to negotiate [90]

Not much speed but probably unsurprising given lack of activity lately and event last night!

Temple Newsam

Started well but did a tour of the thickets at #6 without seeing the flag [45] before falling apart both technically and physically after catching a small group at #9. Very scrappy and rapidly tiring thereafter losing a further 3 minutes or so. Need to learn the lesson of distractions and keep taking my time!

Bixslade. Soon needed a headtorch. Few map updates required.
