HALO Mausoleum Woods

Quite handy less than 20mins from project. Didn't realise it was on until the day though so had to improvise / hire / borrow various kit to take part. Had my O shoes at least.

JK Relay Pippingford Park

Men's Short Leg 3 running with Rose and Mick.

Tired legs obviously but fortunately quite a short course.
Mostly straightforward until I decided to follow Premier runners the wrong direction for my #14, losing 30s and probably a place or two.

Team finished 10th.

JK Long St Leonard's Forest, Holmbush & Buchan Country Park

Decent start; bit stuck going straight to #6 but chose correct route to #7 - caught / passed 3, 6 and 9 min men here (!)
Faffed on fiddly route leaving #8 [40]
Poor route out of #10, then silly error after hitting the wrong path after cutting across nearing #11 [60]
Re caught / passed by 3 (Alex Moore) and 6 (Scott Collier) men here.
Thought I could relax and tuck in for a bit and take a gel, but contrived to drop it. Once I'd scooped it up they'd disappeared and I subsequently made a real mess of #12 [60]
Through the next couple ok, still not back to calm O of the first section though.
Strange planning to have first two controls leading you in to #15.
Proceeded to make a mess of #16 when attacking from open - think obvious veg boundary put me off [60]
My compatriots made even more of a mess of this though so didn't see them (or indeed anyone else on my course) again.
Pretty clean through the rhodo section, bit confused leaving #26 by veg marking, but trusted compass [20]
Pretty knackered on spectator run through. Started crossing bales in error - perhaps I had subconsciously had enough... Had second gel here. Dead last on dead running splits.
The last loop was a real trudge, especially when twinges of cramp onset and I had to take it very steady. Chose path routes where possible.
Lost a bit on wrong route / getting stuck in light green en-route to #38 [60]

Destroyed at the end!

45 / 55 on the day.
44 / 53 Overall.

JK Middle Ambersham Common

Faffed at #2 below control; not reading enough detail to see control was quite a bit higher than main stream [60]
Caught and passed 2mins already soon after #3 by Matthew Vokes.
Followed him to #4 before he set off in a strange direction leaving the control.
Poor direction to #6 - should have used simple path route [40]
Spotted rickyp ahead here, then caught and passed by Vokes for the second time.
Kept in touch with them for a few by taking better lines (straighter to #10 and staying high initially to #12) but they disappeared up the hill out of #13.
Too far south on #16 [20] - passed by Dane here; followed him on a strange route to #17.
Still time to get passed by Will Rigg before the finish.

Not bad technically overall but too quick an area for me!

55 / 79

Missed out #12 (spectator control) in my haste to change my map. Oops.
On for a top 100 placing too!
