South Achray Middle

First start to permit maximum tourist time in the afternoon :)

Didn't see anyone on my course which was nice. Technically not too bad - miss at #5 (drifted to marsh to west) [30], poor route to #21 (dropped low to path) [30] and hesitant at #23 (not quite sure of position and flag was tucked away amongst greenery) [40]

Physically well off the pace by even more than usual! Tracks / packs / poor sleep / something else?

Dark Thistle Short Course
Fairy Knowe & Doon Hill

Great fun! Not as epic as last year, partly because I was on the Short and partly because this area is no Craig a Barns.

At the back of (what was presumably) the Long pack to #1 and #2; dropped back a little on track run to #3, then had short gaffled loop first. Managed to overshoot #4 (194), probably due to Long runners having a control further on [2m 30s]. Possibly still punched first of Short runners on this gaffle as the unit seemed to be asleep. Big pack of Short runners around now though and I lost further time getting stuck in windblow to #5 [45] and #6 [20]

Made up a little time on #7 after finding a good river crossing and hit 'the front' at #8 when those ahead missed.

Very lonely for the next section. Went around to #12 which was probably a good choice, but missed east in the circle slightly and bounced off the open beyond [60]

Confused by the tapes leading off to the river crossing en-route to #13 but eventually found path [90]. Llewellyn came in to the control just after me (but having already done the last small gaffled loop).

Came into #16 and suddenly there were loads of lights around below. Wobbled around looking for #17 [50] and #18 [20] having already been to both before, but just managed to finish ahead of the chasing pack!
