A hard wake-me-up with Aidan; cruddy through the woods, nice decending to the falls and then beyond to the lower domes but coming back required too many stops to breath.

A pleasant stroll with a pack past the Hat Shop to our campsite.

Bryce is such an inspiring canyon (as are the other canyons and hoodoos along the Paunsaugunt plateau). I was happy to have the chance to stay below the rim.

Tree molds trail. Cool depressions remaining after the lava flowed through a mature forest. You could even see the bark pattern in one of them.

Everything good but the sunburn.

Meet 15, course 25 - Gold Rush Middle

My best and worst middle at an A-meet. I had a mostly good run on a great course by Sergey; a couple of controls that I burnt a minute-90s extra on because I became detached from my map and only one really large 5 min error (I drifted too far below a trail and ended up trapped across a gorge, the solution being tied to me recognizing that I needed to get across and be on the other side of the next hill, I should have played it safe). Even with this, there were many small victories; some nice lines, stretches of good focus, some ability to transition between coarser and fine nav, and tricky controls hit bang on, so yip! The worst part is that I missed the middle of three controls in a straight line and mp'd, 1st time ever at an A-meet. As Ken mentioned separately this week, it happens... Just went on and enjoyed soaking my feet in the creek and the promise of a week in the wilds of the west.

(Yes, and I reveled in the glory of besting Aragorn in the finish split challenge; separately, he could enjoy his nice results from a very solid set of Green courses....harmony)
