NAOC sprint.

A better run still and more fun than I expected.

Orienteering race 1:31:02 [3] **** 7.68 km (11:52 / km) +43m 11:32 / km
spiked:6/9c shoes: Inov 340 Pair #2

NAOC Long 5.2 km/120 m (course 7a)

A better run than yesterday but still way, way off a personally acceptable run. More will need to be written after I can think about the big missteps on 3 and 6. I enjoyed the rest of the course and moved a fair bit quicker today.

NAOC Middle 3.9/65m (course 7a)

Wow, I learned that I would need to be careful from the model map and I am certainly prone to periodic whoppers and but today was an unmitigated disaster. There were some controls that went well during the first third, but I completely torched #7. This was followed by messing up 8, 9, and 11. The leg to C11 had a second set of beaver dams that confused me (and did again on the long!!). My navigating got better again at the end but the subtlety of the terrain was mostly beyond me today. Differentiating the more intermittent marshes and streams I was not getting even after reflection. On the model map, there were dry stream channels that were solid blue lines and completely drenched dashed blue intermittent streams. During my relocation near 7, my inability to get into the mapper's system played as a big negative. A second relocation issue was the mapping of bare rock as open ground. Apparently this is standard in Sweden but was foreign to me. I found the forest to be slow and the footing to be uneven enough that real speed was not happening.

Compass-wise, 7 legs drifted left?

On the positive side, as lame as this was, it was not to long ago that my skills would have me still roaming the forest.

Road running 41:10 intensity: (17 @0) + (16 @1) + (28 @2) + (4:09 @3) + (35:26 @4) + (34 @5) 5.25 mi (7:51 / mi) +16m 7:46 / mi
ahr:151 max:166 shoes: Saucony Progrid Wide 2

A final tune-up before heading to Ontario. Some of my tightness is getting stretched and rolled out so I am feeling better than before heading west in August. Goal for the weekend. Move well but don't outrun my brain.
