Orienteering race 11:12:00 [5] *** 44.5 km (15:06 / km)
20c shoes: Salomon Speedcross

Won the Race of Hope 12 rogaine as a team with Dave Waller; yipee! Fantastic weather, beautiful control placements, and generally nice running forest at Lake Hope Park. Will adjust the distance once I figure it out --- (now its updated; climb = lots). We aimed to do two loops -- a larger central-N-SE loop and then take a pit stop at the car before, time permitting, we attempted the last 5 controls in the SW corner. Three controls were off; 41 and 80 caused about 45 -55 min of lost time. It is not clear whether this plus the 48 minutes that we sacrificed at the end would have led to many more controls (likely only one). The post-race feeling was that the SW was the least runnable part of the park. "Ran" a good portion of the course but really pushing was outside at least my current state of fitness. I would like to clear one of these (which was shown to be possible by one of the solo runners, Mark Lattanzi); I really like the feel of our team and hope that we can pull this off next year.

Also, both Jim Benton and Flyingsquirrel ran impressive solo races. We were certain that we would have been 10 points behind fs. I suspect that she will make us pay next time.
