SMT "hey who are all these other runners using OUR smt-trails" edition

I've been looking forward to this one all winter, so really happy that I didn't have to pull the plug with the Tenosynovitis developed at the rogaine. It was touch and go for a bit there, but the rest and having DrBilly work me over yesterday did the trick.

Arrived a little closer to my start time than I'd hoped, so severely shortened w/u and nerves wracking me as we approached the handoff. 'Bent came clamering up the hill right on schedule (nice work dude) and looked spent at the hand over, not even able to look up. Seeing that surged a degree of adrenaline into me wanting to give as much as 'Bent had obvisouly done, that I flew outta there at a crazy speed; only backing off the gas once on the Main Loop and my mind telling me that "…there's still a longish way to go".

Cruisy through the balance of the main loop and across the road. A small pickup in the ski trails to get ahead of a trail mob just before the single track down to Martin Rd. At this point I'd only looked at my watch a couple of times and not the time, but simply the HR and the pace. Did not like what I saw …high HR and both time paces of >4:30/km Certainly not reassuring, so that by the time I hit the Headwaters lollipop I put my head down and tried to push the pace as much as possible.

Came flying down the backside from farmer's and slowed a bit at the aid station to get some oxygen into the lungs before the dreaded climb back up to the exchange. Thankfully Trav was there at the top of the climb and paced me in over the last 40m, which made a huge difference; probably saved 20-30sec right there alone.

I really had a blast out there, both on course and through the day. Also, I really appreciate my teammates covering my 48sec deficit. Congrats to all and a huge thanks to Trav for doing a bang up job!

Note

Wicked quote from Rodriguez after today's stage...

"Today he was able not to lose any seconds, and if the gaps stay like this, Scarponi, Basso and I won't have any chance against him in the Milan individual time trial. So, we have to attack him and try to make him drop, otherwise he will win this competition for sure."

Hard to believe I used to ride with this scrawny 6'2" beanstalk back in the day at Hartland dump ...and when I say ride with I mean pass in the opposite direction on the single track giving 'the nod'

TOTNT "Late" edition

...or early edition depending on whether I head out tomorrow.

Kicking off some cobwebs and last bit of effort before Saturdays record shot. Had hoped to head out yesterday and thought for a moment today wasn't even going to happen. Instead headed out and simply showed up at daycare to pickup IBB in split shorts, a singlet and dripping on their floor; I'm guessing this is a first at their daycare.
