Orienteering (national mall Score) 2:50:00 [2] 11.72 mi (14:30 / mi)
shoes: Run: Asics Gel Yayano 24

Score orienteering in Washington D.C. National Mall Area.
Rode the subway down. It was raining the whole time, sometimes light, sometimes heavy. I was dressed appropriately so wan't cold.
The rulese were to only cross at Cross walks (which I did), and wait for the crossing light (which I sometime but not always). If the road was clearly empty then I just used the cross walk but didn't wait for the light.
There were no bathrooms. I thought I would be ok but after several hours I really needed to go. I ran to one only to find out it was closed. Two control later I ran way out of my way to Washington Monument Bathrooms. I figured I about 1/2 mile was added by doing this. I ran back to where I left off the course.
One control was the distance from door that smoking was allowed. There was someone smoking well within that distance. In fact it was smoky in many areas. I was trying to run under the eaves and canopies and that is where all the smokers were.
Having been here before I didn't get fooled by the up vs down issues this time. Still wasn't always sure where the control was up/down but didn't loose time when I got to the area.
Like everyone else, my answer sheet got progressively wetter as the course went on. By the end it was soggy but still holding it shape in the bag. Just hard to mark off answers. I few answers I had touble finding, hard to read, or figure out what was being asked but I did figure it all out..
