Long walk to the start. I didn't start my watch at the beginning so didn't get the whole distance. Most of it was on trail but had to navigate a few spots to know when to cut off the trails.

After long walk to the start, I rested for a while then went up the start. I hadn't warmed up other than some simple stretches. I was unsure which course to do and there was no climb listed on the course length. After asking alli who couldn't tell me, I opted for the shorter medium course instead of the longer course.
I though I might run a little harder today but on the uphill I couldn't. I was feeling the altitude. The woods were very open and runners could really move. The map was under mapped (especially rock) and believe the feature symbol was the wrong size (1:15,000 symbols on a 1:10000 map). It was very nice running terrain.
As one point I came barreling down a hill to cross the road just a pickup truck was coming. I think it thought I was running to it because it pulled to a stop right where I was going to cross the road. I could see the guy in the back seat starting to roll down the window. I just said Hi as I ran by and could see the confused look on their faces. Obviously they don't see many orienteers in the forest.

Orienteering 55:18 [3] +90m

Mass Start Dogbone run. Basically 10 windows with 2 controls. Have to do both controls before going to the next window.

I was just following to the first control. Then started reading the map. Ran several legs with JP but we split on the way to 6. At the 6/7 legs I got messed up. on the way to the 2nd 7 control I missed it, then ran the 6 control again then got confused to which control I was going to and stared off in the wrong direction. From then on I was by myself.

Woods had a fair amount of underbrush which dragged on the feet.
Control 2nd #5 was lying flat on a rock. Not hung.

Day 1.
Running at 6500 ft at Mt Bachelor ski resort.
I had run here about 10 years ago but didn't remember much. My goal was to run an easy consistent pace. This was training and not a hard run.
I am still a little sore from soccer but not enough that it mattered.
I started off just enjoying the cool tempature, no humidy weather. I really should have been reading the map. I got the area but had to relocate. Control said foot of cliff but it wasn't lowest spot. It was actually on a shelf up from the lowest area. I think there was unmapped rock at the bottom of the cliff.
Went to the circle fine for #2 but again had trouble finding the control. Either the control was hung slight off or I didn't like map. I spent time wondering among the rocky areas. I found the control on smaller rocky area that didn't match the map.
Went to #3. It was hidden in a pine tree, flat against the trunk.
#4 I ran across the field but was left of the reentrant and had to fight my way through the pines to it.
#5, I saw the cliffs but missed the control. I over shot and had to come back to it.
#6, I decided start reading the map more carefully. No problem to 6.
#7, no problem.
#8, got to the control area but there was no control. I relocated several times to be sure. Still no control. Finally, saw the control tucked in a pine tree flat against the trunk.
#9 Silly control. Long trail run with a dogleg right back down the trail.
#10, slow but no problems.
#11. Realized this would be a technical area. Decided I wasn't going to try and read every detail as I couldn't determine what was what. Instead I would go straight, pace count and look at the end of the slots. I missed the control and wandered a bit. Finally found it by relocating on a ridge with rock that was hidden under the circle..
#15: trail run. There was extra rock in the circle that wasn't mapped.
#16, 17: silly controls. Would have been better to take us north of the finish instead.

After the course, I realized there was light green on the map but it was printed so light that you couldn't see it. Would have been nice to know it was there.
During the course I also got confused by text on the side of the map that was oriented towards north. A Major No-No. I oriented my map wrong at one point because I thought the north was side of the map because of the text.

Despite some silly legs, poor control placement, and map irregularities I still had fun. Had this been a real competition then that wouldn't have been the case.

Usually I don't put hikes for level three exercise, but this was clearly an exception.

After orienteering I decided to play the Disc Golf course on Mt Bachelor. It started at the top of the hill and winds it way down.
So I hiked up the hill rather than pay the $26 for the lift ride. The lady said it was 1 mile up and 1 mile flat ish. It was 1.46 up, and the last mile was flat only compared to the first mile. It was also still up, just less steep.
Walked from 6300 to 7600 ft.

At the top I couldn't find the disc Golf course. I wandered a bit and finally found the Tee off but not the first basket. I finally teed off going to the wrong basket. I found hole 2 and 3 and played those. Then a couple who was at the base of the mountain with me came up and they had the map of the course so we were able to find things. I tagged along with them. The course was brutal. The first part is all above tree line and you are throwing the disc onto lava rocks which just chews them up. I decided to only play with 2 disc and discard them afterwards. The course, while generally going down had lots of steep valleys you had to throw across, on in my case down to the bottom and back up to the top. It was also very rocky and hard walk. It was also very windy which made for some disaster shots. I had one really nice flow until the wind picked up and sent flying down the mountain.

I Lost one disc (my last Cheetah which they don't make anymore): I saw where it went but couldnt' find it, even with the other two helping. Since it was along the road I wonder if someone picked it up before I got to it. I made up for by finding two other disk while looking in bushes for the disc of the people I was playing with.

While the course was free, I lost one disc, found two others, chewed up two disc, and a pair of shoes. The soles were ripping off the bottom of my shoes on all the rocks.

It was also a lot of execerise. Total steps today. 31,200. Much of it up/down the mountain.

In the middle of typing this, the hotel fire alarms went off. A too tall vehicle ripped off the sprinkler heads at the overhead drive through check in area which set off the alarms. Water at full pressure was pouring from the destroyed sprinkler heads.

First game of the season. We were supposed to have a good turn out but it wasn't as good as advertised. We started playing a woman short. We had several new women on the team. Unfortunately, they weren't any good. They wanted to play defense and the other team just had their way with them. The team quickly scored several goals. Things settled down some but by half we were down 6-0. The second half I moved back to defense and took charge of things. The other team had to start earning the goals becuase I had my defense start covering the middle players tighter. They still have opportunities to score but started choking because they were under pressure. We only gave up two goals the 2nd half.
I was doing a lot of running and by the end my calves were threatening to cramp. I couldn't sprint hard which is tough when you are trying to stop a fast break. I wanted to sub but there wasn't anyone who capable who wanted to play defense. I was able to tough it out until the end of the game but knew I will feel it later.

After spending some time talking to people, after the game I decided it was time to do my warm down. I intended to jog very slow around the park as I hadn't done it yet. I wasn't sure how long it was but figured it was less than a mile. I was 7 minutes in when my calf gave out and almost cramped. I walked the rest.

I had to spend time stretching awhile before I could drive home.
