Orienteering (Beer Chase) 1:06:26 [3] 5.12 mi (12:59 / mi)
shoes: O: Icebuds 2012

I started off strong in the front. Given my injuries, I decided to ease back so I slowed down on the road and again once going into the woods. I followed the crowd to number 1. By the time I got to number 1, all the leaders were gone. I navigated myself from here on. Two was hidden in the green. Three I didn't need to look at the map to get there. I used this control location last year. Going o 4 I got a little off and hit the wrong trail and so turned the wrong way. This threw me off. I took a long round about route to get here. I was looking for reentrant not a spur so lost more time here. 5: stayed left of the marshes then cut up the hill. Running with Tom Nolan now. Rest of first loop uneventful. I did the over streamer stuff this loop. 2nd loop: lost time on 11 (control in the woods). Wasn't any feature where the control was and I lost time standing nearby looking for it. Led Tom to it. Rest of 2nd loop uneventful. at end I took the 3 minutes penalty. Not happy about useless obstacle on a beer chase course. I wasn't about to crawl in the grass or risk cramping up crawling up. tom Nolan left me while I waited.
3rd loop was uneventful, or so I thought. It was very hard to figure out the next control feature as each map restarted from 1. I had my map folded and ended up skipping control 23. I went from 22 to 24 (which was tough since the trail on the map didn't exist. Also the area by control 23 has been out of bounds for years because of eagle nesting so it never occurred to me that we would use it. I took another 3 minute penalty this loop.
