Since it was raining this AM, I decided to try out the group cycle class at Bayview. It was a tough session, with the hardest part being the standing sections. To be stable, I had to gear up quite a bit. Obviously still too weak in whatever muscles are used to stabilize, and I had to break down and sit a couple of times.

Large lunch and early swim caused me to start a little easy, but was then respectable.

RH3 at Corbett's Glen. More time spend standing than running. Good to have more old-timers than usual out, including Fetch and PD.

Dirt Cheap Trail Race at Black Creek

Didn't quite make my goal of finishing in the top half, but this race was smaller than my last, so I'm guessing the dedication and quality was slightly higher. The race started up the main hill, so I was breathing hard from the start. Fairly wide trails for almost the first half of the race made for easy sorting of the non-waved starters (lots of people passed me from 1/2 mile to 1.5 miles). By the time we hit single track, I had a big gap both ahead of me and behind me. After a bit, I caught two people and was able to use them as an excuse to back off just a bit. We passed several people that were politely stepping aside. When we hit the main field, I picked it up and moved around them. Then it was the hill again - I used the Mud Run strategy of 50 "running" steps on the meat of the hill, then 50 walking, which got me almost to the top.

Luckily, Zach warned me about the final stretch, which was not the XC course finish, but rather a series of switchbacks in the wooded patch inside the XC loop. I caught a large group (5 or 6) during this section. One of them took off before the end of the woods, but when we got out, I picked it up and passed the others, running scared the rest of the way.

Note
(rest day)

Took the day off for more Coogan reunion festivities. Not the 146 from the day before, but a very solid turnout for Mass at IC, then brunch at Hamlin park. Followed that up with lunch at the Bar Bill, and then chilling at Walt's house with just him and all siblings except Sue.

A jog/walk after work that included some bushwhacking to get to the trail that goes past the do not enter eagle area sign. Not sure if any eagle is still around.
