Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Not much running today. Dropping the volume for the runners big time this week, especially the JV, since their last race is coming up on Saturday. They did some Rep work today: 3 person x 3 x 200m relay, then I made some team changes (11 teams were involved, in all) and they did it again. Then we went over and they did 10x120m on the gentle hill leading from our shelter to the bathroom - 5 going up and 5 going down.

ROC Meet at Rotary Sunshine Camp - Red course

Not a good start - went to the wrong spot for C1 and had some trouble figuring out what had gone wrong, even though I was probably less than 50m away. Kept getting pushed farther left on the way to C2 and actually went left as far as C4. C5 was fine, but then I had my big error. It was very hard to run toward the gun shots, so I kept drifting farther left from my compass bearing. I went by a control that turned out to be on the other side of the map, but by the time I realized it, I was far enough past that I was able to miss the woods section leading to C6 and wound up on the other side of the field to the south, thinking it was the smaller wedge north of C6. By the time I recovered, Stina, who started after me, was already at C6.

I realized it was time to focus and I went much better for the next stretch. Only problem was going to C14 - first I tried to cut off too much and ended up dealing with some medium green, then I got a bit confused by the trails as I got past the lowland area. Almost 3 minutes behind Mitch, in addition to being behind Rob S and Steve.

Running warm up/down 13:00 [2] 1.53 mi (8:30 / mi)

Decent 10 min w/up; abbreviated w/dn as I hustled off for Zach's opening hockey game. They ended up playing shorthanded for most of the 3rd, with several bad penalties that allowed Perinton to score a couple and tie it up, 3-3.

Orienteering race 36:08 [4] 4.2 km (8:36 / km)

Went back out on Orange, since I had some spare time. Lost focus going to C7 and missed the proper reentrant. Got into the "just a little farther" mode and wound up at C8. The finish stretch started out like the Red finish, so I left C13 just like for Red and skipped C14. Oops.

Running warm up/down 3:00 [2] 0.3 mi (10:00 / mi)

Very brief w/up as I arrived too close to the noon mass start.

BFLO Score-O at Emery Park

When flipping over the map, I saw a control in the field to the west, so the decision was easy, save that for last, so clockwise made the most sense. I was off quickly, so it was a long time before I saw anyone else.

I didn't understand that C8 was going to be "inside" the vegetation, so I ran past it a couple of times before I saw it. A couple of other minor errors that I can't remember without the map.

Orienteering 15:00 [3] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

The Sprint controls had been picked up, but I headed out anyway. Ran past C6 and when I realized this, I decided not to go back for it (since it wasn't there anyway).

Running 34:00 [2] 4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Trying to remember last Friday's practice...

The kids ran easy ahead of tomorrow's time trial, so I must have run easy as well... for a little over 30 minutes.

Running 15:00 [2] 1.67 mi (9:00 / mi)

Just a small amount of running during practice at Webster Park. I spent most of the practice timing the kids' Kenyan Surge Intervals (600T+400I+200R). 6 girls and 4 boys did 5 of these bad boys, while the remainder did just 4 and the first and last were strictly tempo.

The temperature must have dropped something like 20 degrees during practice; at least 10 just between the 3rd and 5th intervals as the rain moved in - we basically finished just in time.

Running 42:05 [3] 5.17 mi (8:08 / mi) +39m 7:57 / mi

Running during practice - took the roads to the Whiting trails, then chased the big boys around, couldn't close the gap from about 20-25 seconds, as I tried harder, they kept picking up the pace (even not knowing I was behind them). They stopped to bifurcate back at the western trail in Webster Park, so I ran in with a small group.

Something is not right about this - I was not on a particularly hilly part of the trails and was working hard, so I can't see this averaging over 8 min per mile.
