Running 50:00 intensity: (35:00 @2) + (10:00 @4) + (5:00 @5) 6.63 mi (7:32 / mi) +77m 7:17 / mi

Running around before and during the XC meet at Webster Park. Our girls managed a 2-2 split in the first race, despite competing against 3 of the top teams in the state, losing to Fairport (#4 in Class AA) and Penfield (#18 in Class AA), but defeating Sutherland (#10 in Class A) and Athena.

The boys beat Penfield, Fairport and Athena comfortably, but were just a bit too far back from Sutherland's pack - they are ranked #2 in the state in Class A, so making them earn the victory over us is a moral victory.

The times were incredibly fast today. Val (19:30), Amanda (19:31) and Annelise (20:30) posted the #1, 2 and 4 times for Schroeder at Webster Park (#3 was Val last year), with Sarah (20:35) adding #6 and Alaina (21:18) #10.

AJ ran 15:50, which was just 8 seconds off the course record, which was set in the epic season-ending battle of unbeaten teams in 2008 (Mendon, Thomas, Brockport, Brighton). The top 6 went under 16 in that race. No one else had until AJ did it alone today. Geoff (16:32) was faster than Nico last year and JMatt (16:44) was only 1 second slower than Nico. Joe was our 7th man in 17:24.

And Zach ran 18:54 (but did not quite get nate's freshman time of 18:37 - nate was our 7th man in that race, 14 seconds behind #3, today he would have been 12th, just like Zach, almost 2 minutes behind #3).

Note
(rest day)

At work from 7am-6:20pm and was in no mood to do anything other than eat when I got home. I may have to adjust my eating (i.e. not skip lunch) on the days when the Sabres play, and add workouts in the evening so I can catch the Sabres at the Y until Dish and MSG resolve their silly squabble.

Orienteering 1:09:40 [2] 3.97 mi (17:33 / mi) +147m 15:44 / mi

Finishing off the Map Hike at Hunter's Creek, then repeating some before the awful Bills performance. I guess other than the time around halftime and the 4th quarter, they were only mediocre to poor, not awful. And for a couple of bright shining moments, they were decent.

I don't have the map, but I started in the SE (via the road to avoid an early creek crossing) - perhaps at C8, then had a heck of a time getting out of there to the north. I tried right, but it got too thick, then tried a bit to the left, but was on deer trails, not the real trail and went to hands and knees before finally retracing a bit and bailing further west where I found the real trail. I then worked up to the power line, crossed the creek and came back. The trip back included one aborted control because I didn't trust myself leaving the power line.

Note
(rest day)

Single dad today, with Chris and Zach in Pittsburgh to visit / cheer for nate. He ran a great first mile - too great in fact.

I had to drop Luke off at hockey at 7:30, then swing by XC practice at 8am, then catch the end of Luke's game, get back to the rink at noon, so I could be on a call / Live Meeting from 12-2:30, during which I also had to do the score sheet for Luke's game from 1-2 - thank goodness(?) for wireless at the rink. Then I had to meet the SAT kids for XC practice at 3, and get back to the rink to run the clock from 4:45-8, before driving to Buffalo. I guess I can check this off as a "Rest day".

At least Luke's team was in the Championship game, and prevailed, 6-4, after almost blowing a 5-1 third period lead. They only have 2 lines, but the 3rd period of the 3rd game was the only time all day that they showed any fatigue. And Luke was selected to the All-Tourney team for his solid defensive play.

Running 22:40 [2] 2.5 mi (9:04 / mi)

Easy run with Luke during practice at Webster Park. I had to get to practice late (and was on a call from 3:30-4 while I drove there), but got there before everyone left Luke at the pavilion. We visited the high waves breaking on the pier, then cruised over to the other side of Holt for some trail and terrain running, before doing some jogging to the west of Holt. Didn't want to wear him out since he has an all-day hockey tourney tomorrow.

Running intervals 37:00 intensity: (17:00 @2) + (20:00 @5) 5.0 mi (7:24 / mi) +6m 7:22 / mi

Workout at Genesee Valley Park with the team. We did intervals on the County Meet course, more or less (the map is not definitive enough). The Varsity squads did 800, back to start 3 x1600, 1x200. I did the workout with Green and Brown - we did 4 x1200, with about 4:30 recovery, except only 1 minute after the last one, prior to doing the 200m kick to the finish line. I think we cut the 2nd one a bit short, but I think the Varsity made the 2 mile a bit long and the answer is in between.

I basically kept up with Zach, but only because I had to correct his line on a couple of the intervals.

Running 27:30 [2] 3.24 mi (8:30 / mi)
slept:5.25

Easy run around Webster Park during practice. I arrived late because of work issues that I needed to make sure were under control. The run was delayed and/or cut short because:

a) when I went back to my car to change, the po-po had parked next to it
b) I had to answer a personal attack e-mail from a co-worker (about "leaving early" to go to practice)
c) I had to stop and e-mail my lead developer during the run
d) all of the above
