Running 31:34 intensity: (3:35 @1) + (11:09 @2) + (11:52 @3) + (4:45 @4) + (13 @5) 2.58 mi (12:14 / mi) +14m 12:02 / mi
ahr:130 max:155 weight:172lbs

Couldn't do much running during the first day of XC practice, so I stopped at Whiting Rd for a short jog/walk on the way home.

Biking 48:48 intensity: (12:31 @1) + (28:51 @2) + (4:44 @3) + (2:24 @4) + (18 @5) 12.46 mi (3:55 / mi) +23m 3:54 / mi
ahr:123 max:159 weight:170lbs

Had time for a short bike ride before mass and the wild Bills game. This was the second Bills home game that I have missed this season (since no fans are allowed), which equals the total number of home games that I had missed in the 34 previous seasons (one in 1989 for business travel and one in 2018 for Joey's Baptism).

Orienteering race 2:47:19 intensity: (1:40:32 @1) + (32:07 @2) + (21:57 @3) + (9:52 @4) + (2:51 @5) 6.45 mi (25:56 / mi) +350m 22:12 / mi
ahr:117 max:163 weight:171lbs

ROC Sol-O at Letchworth. Met Walt and Patty at Letchworth as last chance to do this event. A couple of orienteering cars there when we arrived around 9, then quite a few cars and orienteers for a remote Sol-O event after I finished.

Was not too bad thru 8 controls, other than being distracted by a hiker as I crossed the trail to #3 and I read the wrong reentrant to lose 3-4 minutes. Disaster struck on #9 as I let the hills push me too far right, so I missed the plateau. Eventually I realized I must have gone too far and too right, and climbed back up and found the plateau, but I went along the edge and couldn't see any hill below but got to an obvious spur and knew to go back 100m and down. Lost 3 min on #13 when I climbed to the hilltop and refused to check downhill for the hilltop with the control, but that's where it was. Lost 9 minutes doing a circle short of #14, in part because the clue said stream junction, but the map made it look like a hilltop, so I followed some reentrants that may have been dry occasional streams. After that, it was just slow moving as I was beyond 2 hours. C19 to the finish was long and bloody as I first tried to go straight, then retreated and went around past #7 then it was a fairly clear shot to the road until the last 30 or so miserable meters.

ahr:138 max:158 weight:173lbs

Going to Letchworth for the Sol-O course tomorrow, so I kept it flat today on the Hojack trail, with a detour on the return trip to go down Joylene Dr past our old house. It looks like the deck we built in 1989 is still in operation!

HR was messed up on the Garmin. I was wearing it loose until the end of the run so I used the stats from the end to correct.

weight:173lbs (rest day)

Couldn't hash tonight since we had a XC pre-season meeting (online) at 7:30. I was too fried to run when work ended, so took the day off.

Had 3 pars and didn't keep score overall as I hit balls OB on 4,5 and 6. But it didn't matter since the league ended last week.

A shorter bike ride today, but it included the climb up Panorama trail (north hill) and Hickory Ridge - a 60m climb, after enjoying coming down the south hill, past Paychex HQ.

Went over to Ellison Wetlands after church and before the Bills game. Legs were very heavy after yesterday's ride, so I mostly did 3 min jog / 1 min walk.

ahr:119 max:141 weight:170lbs

Did another 14.7 miles on the canal trail, bringing the total to 85.0 miles. I drove over to Holley and parked at the high school, and went west for 15 miles, which was as far as I dared venture today. This left me about a half mile short of Knowlesville. The wind seemed to be blowing the wrong way again today as I was a little slower on the way back, and only the last 5 miles were slower because of fading (I even had people to catch for the first 5+ miles as I had passed them going the other way just about 1.5 minutes before turning around).

ahr:137 max:175 weight:172lbs

Rode to the end of Bay to Lake, took a detour onto Vosburg and Baker, then over to Holt and back home via Empire. Rode hard early, averaging 18 mph for the first 5 miles (was aided by overall downhill), and legs got heavy later on.

ahr:139 max:165 weight:172lbs

Went to Whiting Rd, but didn't there until after 6:30, so the sun went down while I was out. Just some light work with 3:30 jog, 30 sec hard, 1 min walk. The hard sections were pretty quick although many times it seemed hills kicked in at that time. Went Blue (cc) - Brown (cc) - Green (cc) - Red (cc) - Orange (cc) - Pink (cc) - Orange (cc) - Black (NE) - Blue (cc) and in.

RH3 from Ellison Park south lot set by Shewee and Vowel, with the trail mostly around Corbett's Glen, across the tracks and back. Got dark early so we had some challenges finding the trail late.

Golfing 15:00 [1]

Last week of league play, so it was position night and we went in with a 12-point advantage over second place, so with 40 pts available, we needed 15. Unfortunately, my partner was out of town, but I called in his partner from last year to sub, and he shot 45 with a 13 handicap, which helped us put it away early. I shot 42 and played well, except for 3-chipping (yes, chipping, and starting within 15 feet of the green both times) twice on par 4 holes for a triple and a double, so I was only 1-over on the other 7 holes, mostly thanks to a birdie on 9 where my wedge from 80 yards rolled into the flagstick and bounced off to two feet for an easy putt.

ahr:128 max:156 weight:169lbs

ROC Sol-O event at Durand Eastman - Long Advanced Course.
Although yesterday's run was fairly easy, it was on the longer side and did not do much to allow my legs to recover from the weekend, so they were heavy from the start, which did not bode well for the Durand hills. But I wasn't going to have another chance to run the course, so off I went.

Sluggish from the start, but navigated fairly cleanly (although I did not see any tape in the clear C1 location) until getting confused on the way to C9. Finally recovered and got on a roll again. However, going to C19, the wheels came off, and I stopped paying attention to the compass and let the contours lead me way too far right. AP splits say I lost 3 minutes, but it was probably at least 5.

Running 1:07:07 intensity: (37 @1) + (4:30 @2) + (12:38 @3) + (37:01 @4) + (12:21 @5) 5.6 mi (11:59 / mi) +118m 11:15 / mi
ahr:143 max:164 weight:171lbs

Drove down to Mendon Ponds for a jog (4) / walk (1) effort as my quads were much to heavy from the last two days to think about the Sol-O course at Durand, so not sure when I'll fit that in. Extended past 4 minutes the two times that I saw people so that I didn't stop right before passing them. Extended the walk to 2.5 minutes to walk up Cardiac Hill. Saw more deer (9) than people (5), even though it was a very pleasant holiday afternoon.

ahr:123 max:183 weight:171lbs

Knocked off another 12.8 miles of the canal path (70.3 miles total now). Parked in Spencerport and rode west to Main St in Holly, near the schools, and back. Back was a few minutes slower - a combination of legs getting heavy and facing some significant wind in spots, especially where the canal was wide and open west of Brockport.

Orienteering 1:07:20 intensity: (2 @0) + (43:41 @1) + (6:32 @2) + (6:57 @3) + (9:36 @4) + (32 @5) 2.81 mi (23:58 / mi) +81m 22:00 / mi
ahr:113 max:158 weight:172lbs

Planned on doing the BFLO course at Sprague Brook Park, then meeting Walt and Patty at Sardinia to vet some of next year's Map Hike, but they finished their running of the Oak Tree half marathon earlier than expected, so I headed to Sardinia first. I happened to see their car in Perry and followed them to Castile before Walt noticed it was me.

Last time at Sardinia, I went south, so I volunteered to do the northern loop, which went pretty cleanly, so I was done in 54 minutes and added on two southern controls. I lost 3 minutes on the very first control because the clue said intermittent stream end, so when I saw the stream, I just went uphill without consulting the map - turns out it was actually an usual downhill stream end. Also lost a little time on the 4th control as I did not realize I had to go uphill so much to the flag, so I went a bit past before climbing.

Orienteering 50:49 intensity: (7:40 @1) + (14:18 @2) + (19:03 @3) + (9:14 @4) + (34 @5) 3.02 mi (16:50 / mi) +120m 14:59 / mi
ahr:130 max:155

BFLO Sol-O meet at Sprague Brook Park. Drove over from Sardinia and ran the course. My printer wasn't printing magenta, so the colors were a bit off and the course didn't print, so I had to draw the control circles, old school.

Fairly clean run, even if just a little slow after some climbing at Sardinia first. Only mistake of much consequence was losing > 1 minute going to C5 when I unexpectedly crossed a trail and got confused, veering off less 30m from the control, as it turned out.

Nice ride into the city. Saw a gathering at MLK park, so took a lap around the outside to see the terrorists tailgating. Hit 37mph coming down Empire Blvd from Winton (then hit 7.2 mph coming up the other side).

RH3 in the city. The terrorists scratched up my car a bit while I was parked on Exchange St, south of 490, after we were told to remove our cars from the Exchange Pub lot, even though we were stopping in there after the run. Got out of Dodge before the real action started.

Golfing 15:00 [1]

Not a good round. Driver was fine, except for on #14, but I had 2 3-putt bogeys and missed two other easy putts, so shot 44 and we lost 22-18. But next week is position week and we should still be on top, so that's the week that matters. Unfortunately, my partner will be out, so I need to choose a sub wisely!

Billygoat - 2020 DIY edition. We were able to go visit Nate for the weekend before Luke's goes back to school (well, from his bedroom at home, since RPI is not allowing Sophomores on campus this semester - they will replace the Juniors in the Spring), and the fine folks at WCOC had the (Sol-O) Billygoat ready to go for this weekend. We did our own mass start but I could not keep up with Nate. Luke and Christine also did the first loop behind me, then Luke continued until he fell and injured himself. Meanwhile, I skipped C5 and was ahead of Nate until I overshot C11 and he caught me. He went left to C12 so he could stop for water, while I went right. I did not execute well and he got ahead of me and it was over. I thought I had some energy left, but my splits to C15 and C16 show otherwise.

Other misses: lost over a minute on C8 stopping short and left, and probably lost a minute and a half not getting high enough for C16.
