British Champs Relay
Soon as I was in the first team I knew I wanted to run first leg so we settled on a strong order of Me,Tim,Bash.
Was really, really up for this Relay after having a really bumpy road with all the selection races and everything recently, I just wanted us to smash it.
Set off confident and took the lead after the first control and had about a 10s lead to three with Ben hot on my tail. I thought the mapping of the bushes was shite here there was clearly another bush before the control, so this allowed me to hesitate and Ben to catch up. Me and Ben then pushed on through the fields and wooded section and managed to gain a reasonable gap on the others chasing. I Missed again slightly on the stream junction but Ben missed on his gaffle as well this allowed Matt to get back on our tracks.
Ben was then a bit stronger from here and I got through onto the open area with Matt just on my trail, Ben had a different gaffle on the longer leg and must of missed because me and Matt went through the spectator first, I got ahead of Matt on the open slope with a gap of about 10s again after he followed me onto my gaffle, but in the heat of the moment I missed on the two cragged control on a diagonal downhill leg and looked up to see Matt punching it, shit! I then pushed hard away to get back in front with Ben gaining back on us quickly. Got back ahead again taking the lead but ended up having the longer gaffle all the way down the slope this time which put me on the back foot with a big climb up to there control which was my next! they left me here and then it was just a slog back to the finish.
Handed over about 40ish seconds down, in contention, job done. Finished satisfied but still missing that usual top gear. Tim then went on to run a really solid leg and almost caught Olly up again after spectator to put Bash out about a minute and a bit down. He says he played little part in the result, but thats bollocks!
Me and Tim then waited nervously to see what was about to come and as Bash came through spectator only 30 seconds down we knew it was on! And that we were in with a slim chance of catching shuoc if they missed. As they were nearing the finish the commentary says "we've got news of the race,do you want to know?" of course we want to bloody know you jeb end. "And it's Edinburgh who punch the penultimate control first" and as we see a flash of red jump over the fence I don't think we've ever been happier to see bash in our life, me and tim exploded and were absolutely loving it!!! Ran down the finish line for Bash to punch and us to jump on top of him, British Champions Wheyyy!!!
There's nothing better in Sport than sharing success with two great mates, Love relays, awesome!
Appreciate a lot of good runners were away at World Cups, but you can only beat who turns up and I think we would of gave them a run for there money if they were here! future looks bright for more relay success next year.
