running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)

Slow warm up in the rain, very cautious of knee, but better than night before. Cool down with adam having casual banter.

orienteering race (Interland Habay la nueve) 41:42 [4] 7.55 km (5:31 / km) +110m 5:09 / km
(injured)

Interland 2012- 4th
Got my self pretty focused in the call up process. Pretty Bog standard run to be honest. Slightly slower routechoice to 1 I think, felt my knee aching but a lot better than yesterday and didn't really slow me in the race(so no excuses) 2-5 decent, 6 hesitating (30 secs?) 7-8 took a differnt routechoice to other people, don't know if it payed off or not, haven't seen splits. 20 second lost on this control anyway. 8-10 good, mistake on 11 probs 1 min+, confused by the mapping but stopped a bit short of the control.12-15 fine.

So quite a good race, felt like I should of pushed harder because wasn't to tired toward the end of the course but was at a good orienteering pace + I was adapting to the terrain/map. I think on some controls I should of run more straight: 4 and 8. 2 minutes of mistakes/hesistation and not to sure how much lost on routechoice on a few of the controls. bit annoyed I wasn't nearer 2nd and 3rd, they took 1 minute out of me on the longest leg...should of gone straight.

However pretty happy with performance, 1st English H17 and beaten by 3 belguims who were all a year older and apparently knew the map well I hear, so quite good, also beat Xavier DUBOIS who I've raced against before and who did well at the french 6(better than me). Should of been under 40 today quite comfortably. However good international debut I suppose.

Event: Interland

running warm up/down 12:00 [1] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)

warm up with the boys and then a very painful warm down, hobbling to the bus!

orienteering 43:03 [3] 7.46 km (5:46 / km) +225m 5:01 / km
(injured)

- Championnat FRSO de Moyenne Distance - cittadelle de montmedy
Such a fun urban/castle race sort of thing, best sort of urban I've done before.Set off at a cruising pace but then saw michael and thought oh well I might as well push to catch him up, caught him at 8 and then pushed ahead of him when we got into the town.1-15 good maybe slower routechoice to two. Bad mistake on 16 was going the right way,but thought I saw a wall cutting off my route which wasn't actually there so has turn around and go a different way when I was in fact right. Then has to catch mikey up again, and on route to 18 I fell on some stairs(upwards) smashed my shin and knee really bad against the concrete and was rather startled but manned up and carried on, hurt so bad! then I was literally just hobbling around and I admittedly followed mikey around from 18-23 but then temporarily shook off the pain and pushed ahead again and got some pace to the finish from 24-31. First English came 5th behind some rapid 18's. should of been under 40 mins today, lost a lot of time on one control and from the injury. mistake on 23 aswell.

Really fun though minus the injury. Just a warm up race.

Note

So got the knee and shin seen by some french lady and the ledgendary John Rye, got it cleaned up and got all the grit out of it. but during the 15 min gap, it seized up badly and swelled a lot. so just hobbled down to the bus with doubts that I would be able to run but RICE'd it later and the ice helped a lot and the swelling went down also wore a long compression sock in bed. Got a lot of banter for knee over the weekend and certainly got ripped alot but I'm glad It was alright in the end.

running 23:10 [2] 5.1 km (4:33 / km) +175m 3:53 / km

Nice easy run around birkrigg, good pace but not pushing hard found my self running 3 50k's at time, last run before the weekend. Good improvements on legs, no pain in quads, still tightness in left calf but shouldn't cause to much problem this weekend hopefully. Saw Graham Farley out walking his dogs and had a nice 5 minute chat. Sunny and warm out today :)

Flexibility 10:00 [0]

stretching at top and when home.

Note

Off to Interland for the weekend, travelling to lancaster tonight and then to london in the morning. Should be a nice international warm up event for eyoc.

loc/uvhs sort of social run
Nice and easyyyy going, just chatting with angus and mike. Legs were completely dead and finding it tough on the calves at some points and tough on the quads on the descents. At least I feel like they were better than before. Around birkrigg/baycliff/urswick area. up to the trig at the end for a bit more k. left calf aching noticeably but had this before, just need to keep an eye on it.

So far I have followed my goals for the season of concentrate on the performance(even though a few have been bad) and hopefully selection will come with it. easy week leading up to Interland to try and get that fresh feeling back In my legs!
