Steady Coniston loop.

Running pretty strongly on climbs however once on the ridge got hit by a bit of a hurricane which wasn't pleasant. Good effort in up last climb. Faster than the last few times i've done this run so good stuff.

Running 1:20:12 [2] 12.65 km (6:20 / km) +705m 4:57 / km

Pentlands with the boys before departing to Dumfries. Legs surprisingly not as fucked as I thought, so only power walked when the climb got exponentially more vertical up Carnethy.

Cross training 3:54:00 [2] 105.2 km (2:13 / km) +1019m 2:07 / km

Big ol' day on the Bike with Jack. Wanted to bag my first 100k ride before going back home for a bit, so just winged 'a make it up as you go along route', not a better day to do it than the hottest day of the summer so far, 28 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Route was: Gladhouse, Gorebridge, Pathhead, dicking about the Dalkeith Bypass and then through Mussleburgh and back for a loop up the coast road. Managed to jump on the back of the wheel of a boy who was TT'ing up the coast road which was good bants although he didn't look like he thought so! Felt decent the majority of the way and had to slow down a fair bit in the first half of the ride because Jack was still dying from a ERC session the night before. He started riding better though after a coffee stop and I happily sat in behind for a good bit as i was feeling a little tired. Luckily though the bonk only really hit today when i was lying on the meadows with a cold coke at the end of the ride, so prefect timing really. Beaut day and some beaut tan lines now.

Very bottom of quad is a bit sore now, maybe pushing it a bit in too high of a gear or cleat/seat position a bit out. Was always going to show up any bad set up on a 4 hour ride anyway. Hopefully good for a wee chill in the pentlands tomorrow.

W/U with Colm.

Orienteering 51:36 [4] 10.07 km (5:07 / km) +93m 4:54 / km

Scottish Champs M21S

Joint honours with Colm, fair while since practicing with the map so a shocker of a two min early on and min overshoot in the dunes with some some other wobbles here and there. However got back to it pretty quick and was finding some good flow in places. Took a fair while to get into racing mode and only felt i could push on after halfway. Good fun anyway!

Running 16:11 [2] 2.8 km (5:47 / km)

Running 34:34 [2] 7.21 km (4:48 / km)

Been in hospital since yesterday with quite a serious eye infection. Drops every 30 mins, so not much sleep for me. Vision seems slightly better this afternoon.

Cross training 3:00:00 [2]

Applecross loop including Britains hardest climb 9k with 650m climb. Bloody class! Very alpine like with some gorgeous hairpins, managed to crush jack in the final k. Easy trundle pace throughout ride and then effort up the climb. Took it very reserved to begin with so had a bit to much left in the bag for the the latter speeper bits so really pushed on then. Doing the whole thing in to a headwind also made it more of a challenge!

Friday May 12, 2017 #

Cross training 2:35:00 [3]

Hilly raz from lochinver, short and very steep climbs throughout the ride. Possibly includes another of britains hardest climbs in my book! - gradient was mad steep you had to just give it max or you would fall off your bike. Poor 96kg Euan had to take a stop halfway.

Thursday May 11, 2017 #

Cross training 1:58:00 [3]

Flattish raz to Durness and back to the car, silky smooth wind roads and a tailwind meant a nice average of 45 kph out, tucking in behind vans and racing with motorbikes, loved it. Didn't enjoy the bonk in the last 5 mins on the way back, still recovering from British I think.

Wednesday May 10, 2017 #

Note

10 hours of driving and faffing.

Running 1:45:00 [2]

Coniston fell race route. R Arch tight so took a wee 5 min break to massage them on the way up to Weatherlam. Taking it nice and easy with half running/half walking up to the top then felt better so ran the rest of the climbs. Downhill managed to tire the quads out though even if holding back on the uphills.

Orienteering 41:00 [3] 6.4 km (6:24 / km)

British Relay Champs - 2nd Leg

Set out in a great position after big J had a stormer. Approached this area with care after knowing how tricky it can be from previous trainings. Jack set me out just behind Nay nay and it was clear from early on, he was moving better than me! (Legs a bit shafted from yesterday to say the least!) However managed to end up getting ahead to 5 with some clean navigation through the the tricky stuff and catch site of Duncan to 6.

The two of them slowly then got away from 7 to 8, which then came my whopper of a mistake at 8. I Identified it as a pretty tricky leg so slowed right down and made sure I had a good entrance to it - contouring in off the crag in the reenterant. I arrive to find a crag with no control on it... fuckk i must be too high, so spent the next 4 mins or so checking every giant unmapped crag there was around there. Was loosing far too much time here so decided to just bail upwards, only to find the control on a much smaller crag to the ones I was checking!... don't like to blame the mapping here but it was dogey af how many unmapped crags there were.

Got going after that with a bit of a donkey miss on number 17 allowing Jegor to sneak ahead of me, he had a bit of a shorter gaffle and I was seriously bonking in the open after yesterdays big job so trundled in 10 seconds down on him in 4th position.

Crazy to find out I only lost one position after such a huge mistake, but teams were all over the place from the get go! Tim went on to do very solid job to come back in what we thought was 3rd position only to find out that NOC and FVO's SI's had not registered. Leaving us pretty baffled with retaining our BOC title. Not that same feeling you get when you win the Relay ourtight and a massive commiseration's to the other teams, especially shuoc who put three really solid runs together.

All I know is Tim Morgan and Will Rigg will win you Relay Championships.

Orienteering 2:02:00 [3] 17.5 km (6:58 / km) +700m 5:49 / km

British Long - 12th

Solid, bonky, fairly scrappy but pretty happy overall with this from the training i've been doing just to finish this epic! Getting pretty grim in the last loop and just didn't do enough to hold off the beast that is Marcus Pinker.

Big news to get promoted to the 2nd Relay team, comeback is on!
