Orienteering 1:21:00

A day I will never forget. EOC relay.

I was really motivated for this event. I was running the first leg, followed by Dani and Mätthu. My plan was to be active in the lead but still always have the full control. I succeeded mostly really well. To #4 (the famous one) I also searched a bit, but because I entered the circle cleanly I was able to relocate quickly and find my control. I pushed a bit and quite quickly I was back with the lead. The forking separated us at the end, I then pushed really hard to make a difference but made 2x20sec mistake. It was good enough to come back with the lead.

Dani then started off. He lost about 1min30 in the beginning. I thought it would be over, but then at the spectator control he seemed really close again. I went to the run out to cheer for Mätthu for the last leg, but I could still see most of the shoot in. 100m before the finish I was counting the seconds Dani was behind the lead. I counted 19s. I was so excited that we were back in the race. But while I was waiting for Mätthu, he was just not coming. What had happened ? The speaker also seemed confused, he was mentioning Dani's name, but I just couldn't grasp what was happening. Finally, what felt like an eternity (1min behind the lead), Mätthu passed by where I was standing. Shortly afterwards I realized what had happened to Dani. My heart sank in my heals, the worst case scenario, the one you secretly know can happen, but always ignore, had just happened. I hope he will recover well.

EOC Long distance.
Bumpy start. I missed a bit the first control and during the following next 9 controls I never had a good feeling for the terrain. I chose bad micro route choices and had several time consuming hesitations. When entering the butterfly I finally could turn the knob and at last my orienteering felt much better. And it was also fast. On the next 20 controls I was able to run 20seconds faster than Olav who won.
At the end I finished 5th, 3min behind Olav. Such a result in this terrain is a nice achievement for me, of which I am proud. Especially considering my constant good performances during the whole week.

Orienteering 1:17:00 11.0 km (7:00 / km) +400m 5:55 / km

EOC middle distance.
Tough beginning. I was surprised at the size of the depression and hills of the first looping. To the first control I decided to go straight through the big depression... it was like falling into a huge hole, and the time loss was also big (20-30s). That route choice mistake was followed by some technical mistakes on the next few controls... until I finally runned clean I had lost valuable time.
But with my 7th rank I am very happy. I have to laugh at the fact that I searched for over 10 secs the 2nd last control (which was a spectator control in the field!!!)... and finished 1s behind the 5th place!

Orienteering 1:23:00 2.32 km (35:44 / km) +18m 34:24 / km

EOC Long distance quali race.
At first I was quite happy with my race, but I was quite surprised to lose amost 3min on Anders Nordberg. When I saw my GPS track I understood. I lost quite a lot of time because my execution was often not100% clean.

Orienteering 1:06:00 10.0 km (6:36 / km) +350m 5:37 / km

EOC middle distance qualification. I finished 6th, 32sec behind Novikov.
Decent race, I made 2x25sec mistakes. Other then that it was clean. I whish I could be a bit sharper in the first half of the course... maybe I'll now be able to keep the diesel warm between the races to jump start my engine.
