Long Run 10:23:00 [3] 51.0 mi (12:13 / mi)

Collegiate Peaks 50. First half split of 4:37 felt great. I was on top of hydration and nutrition. Gear was correct and no injury or foot issues.

From mile 25 to 33 it is mostly uphill but at a relatively flat grade. I was able to run a fair bit of this and was in 17th place. Then the wheels fell off. I couldn't run any more uphills, for sure and downhills got slow. At mile 38, I laid down under a tree for 10-15 min. I needed the mental break more than anything. The course was getting lonely and my splits really slow. I carried on and around mile 45 did the same thing. However, at some point right after that I missed the trail and kept going on the jeep road. Therefore, I missed the last aid station/checkpoint. The road connected to the trail and so I ran almost the exact course save for about .5 miles. However, I had to DQ myself at the finish line.

This is a really runnable course and I think I just hadn't run enough at a sustained effort. My hiking/walking was fine. I stayed hydrated throughout but my stomach got a bit sour during the last 2-3 hours. Feet and gear were fine.

I think maybe I didn't eat enough early on, perhaps. I also probably could have drank more too. I think the biggest thing was this was an early season race and I was a bit undertrained. I will use this to refocus on Never SUmmer for sure and I'm glad I "finished" even if it wasn't official.
