Orienteering 1:12:17 [3] 3.8 km (19:01 / km)
rhr:60 shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 - Blue

Great to get out into the woods again. The weather could not have been better, and it was fun hanging out with Hughmac3. But what was up with the motorcade of motorcycles? That was just weird.

I made lots of little mistakes, one or two big ones, but did not beat myself up about it and just kept trucking. Glad I found my way out of the boulder Bermuda triangle of 8, 9, and 10. I got extremely lucky a few times, especially with 10 which I just sort of happened upon. It's really hard to go straight through the woods when there's so much to get around, deadfall and boulders. How do other people do that??

Towards the end I remember that feeling of the brain not working so well because the body is tired.

Nice to see some people I have not seen in too long. Excited that I can still use a map and compass to some degree and I hope to get out for more fall orienteering so I can spend quality time in nature. (and with Pops and other family members!)

Back to the Crum! I swear I ran the whole time and felt pretty good. In other words faster than this time! Gotta start using my Garmin watch again rather than app on phone as I'm sure the mileage was longer.

Took a bunch of Advil and drank coffee right before this...must be the perfect recipe!

I have thoracic outlet syndrome -- nerve compression from muscle spasms and repetitive movement. Going to have to rethink the frequency of teaching. Went running just to stop thinking about this! :)))) Doc prescribed Prednisone, muscle relaxers and PT.

Note

Hugh's race across the Shawanagunk Mountain range was amazing! I had so much fun going from checkpoint to checkpoint, meeting new people, and cheering. I had to actually rely on some navigation skills when my GPS would not work (no service) and luckily I was prepared with maps thanks to hughmac4.

I had some really nice mini-hikes but nothing long enough to justify turning on my GPS for. Overall I probably walked for a couple hours between the checkpoints checking out the race trail. The terrain was fantastic and beautiful and the air was abundantly clean.

I am so in awe of my brother's effort. I didn't run the race but I feel pretty exhausted myself! Can't imagine what Hugh's legs must be saying to him right now.
