Yoga (Vinyasa / Ashtanga) 30:00 [3]

Some of our normal sequence before I had to teach. Went well but next week we can't use any notes! Agh! If anyone who knows a little yoga will let me practice on them this weekend let me know...

Yoga (Yin) 1:30:00 [1]

Yin yoga "experience." Basically getting into various poses, mostly sitting or on the back, and letting go. Not working to engage any muscles, but spending up to 5 minutes working through discomfort to get to a place of surrender - in order to work the connective tissues / fascia. Interesting experience and I was NOT good at surrendering esp when it came to my back folding. But the hip opening poses were really great. I liked some aspects of this but felt it just went on too long. :)

Note

Good luck to the DVOAers out West! Stay hydrated.

Note

Had to take a day off. I'm already a hyper sensitive person, yoga is making me even more aware of all the feelings in my body. A bad headache yesterday became a brain tumor with the help of anxiety, and I'm worried about how I've been feeling dizzy when I move from downdog to a standing pose - probs just low blood pressure. Twice I really thought I would faint though. The 80+ degree heat all day in the studio probably doesn't help an old lady like me. And twice, I had this weird thing happen where the sound started to go down, like I was losing my hearing, the world was fading. It was very scary. I mean, I know they want you to detach from your senses but geez. Too much! So, I'm going to really really try to make it through the rest of this, knowing that maybe doing it every single day is just not in the cards for me. I hope I can still graduate b/c I really love most days. Sad to have that horrible anxiety come back yesterday - I hope it stays away!

Note

Woke up today and did a test forward fold. Oh no, no way I'm going to class today. Will walk or something and study at home. Plus, they are teaching pre-natal yoga after the practice and that's a "bell+whistle," not the main curriculum so I feel okay missing it.

Yoga 25:00 [3]

Trying to memorize the sequence on my own, just going thru the motions not holding poses. Plus some nice back stretches. Back feels okay.

Yoga 1:30:00 [3]

Doing more and more of the full sequence

Yoga 30:00 [3]

5 sun As and 3 sun bs plus breaking down each pose ashtanga style. I should really log this as at least an hour but it was broken up over a few hours and the sun salutations were the only things that were continuous. I am truly whipped and wonder if I'll make it tomorrow...

Yoga 45:00 [3]

The first 5 flows and then I taught the sixth! It went smoothly and I really enjoyed it. After that I tried to jump back into class and I felt like I was going to faint. Right now I'm feeling pretty anxious. Perhaps adrenaline from teaching? Who knows. All I know is if it's good one day it's bound to be hard the next day :)

Yoga 1:40:00 [3]

Seriously probably one of the hardest classes I've ever done! I am trembling...

Note

It's funny- now other ppl in class are starting to have emotional upheavals. I got mine out of the way last week :).

Brown Non Compete at Hay Creek. Glad I was not competing. Tried to make the best of the greenest of woods but wasn't enjoying myself and almost came in early. Then I ran into Hughmac3 and we decided to carry on as a father daughter team. That made it much more enjoyable! I did not see, only heard the expletives that came with the thrashing he got on his legs going to number 7. Well, he was wearing shorts.

Sweated my ass off today. Really tried to be mindful of my back and still got an amazing workout. I survived a whole week! Back feels okay right now. :)

Walk 20:00 [3]

Quick walk on a break from yoga training. Learned a lot today! But didn't do a full practice. Did various things throughout the day, and observed a really hard class I was glad I was sitting out. Sitting for 1.5 hours and being quiet and observing was it's own kind of practice. Then I got to "teach" the class for one flow and that was fun and interesting. My back continues to feel a little funky and I've upped the Alleve to 2 a day, one in the morning and one at night. I think stopping the cardio that I'm used to isn't helping, so I'm going to try to walk as much as possible and lighten my bag that I've been carrying (so many books!)

Yoga 40:00 [3]

Only made it through Flow 3 today. (That's after warm up, 5 sets of Sun salutation A and 3 sets of Sun Salutation B.) During a forward fold, the teacher (one of the younger ones with less experience) came up and pressed me farther into the fold. I told her I have lower back issues and she said "oh does this hurt?" I said yes but she didn't stop pressing. She told me to bend my knees which I already was. I'm kind of pissed at her for not listening or knowing this info already despite it being the 3rd time I told her. So I left class and took a walk around which was really nice. Our main instructor yesterday told us not to worry if we couldn't do the whole class everyday so I'm working on feeling okay that I couldn't do it. One last complaint, where is the fucking air conditioning?

You have good days (yesterday I did my first headstand!) and you have bad days I guess. Onward ho!

Ps after class and she does not even ask me if I'm okay.

Walk 30:00 [3]

Note

Had a discussion with the main teacher and I am not going to do full practice every day, but instead, I'll do two full intense practices a week with everything tapering up or down accordingly, including some rest days too. I will observe class and learn that way while I'm not yoga-ing. I guess the real hard work I have to do is being able to identify the physical limits of my back injury and also learning to recognize when I'm mentally rejecting the idea of pushing farther, which I typically do out of fear that it might hurt me. Also recognizing when I'm pushing too far because I'm competitive and I think I should be able to do whatever the 23-year olds do.

On another note, Hughmac3 did a headstand tonight during beer o'clock.

Yoga 1:00:00 [3]

Couldn't make it through the whole sequence today. My body is revolting! But teacher says it's okay to just go at my own (45yr old) pace. It's crazy how much shit is getting stirred up.

Thursday Jun 4, 2015 #

Yoga 1:30:35 [3]

Same sequence as yesterday only a few extra killer things. Something really intense happened to me today and I feel like I released an old trauma through sweat and tears. (My back injury / mother's death occurred around the same time. I think some spiritual scar got popped open!) I feel really incredible and raw. And my back feels pretty strong!

Wednesday Jun 3, 2015 #

Yoga 1:30:00 [3]

The full sequence we will be studying every day for the next 5 weeks at yoga teacher training in Philly. I am exhausted from a full day of learning and practicing! Just sitting on the mat for all those hours was a lot, add new postures and a new faster sequence and I want to just melt into the couch. Really excited to see where this takes me, though!
