Orienteering race 17:29 [3] 1.6 km (10:56 / km) +60m 9:12 / km

Oceania sprint champs in Wellington. Interesting course with first 4 controls in forest area and remaining controls around buildings and park land. Started off cautiously and was quite excited to catch up to Kiwi at 3rd control. Overtook Kiwi at 6th control. Some minor mistakes in building areas. Won race in 17.29.

Note

Supposedly a rest day but Pat and I must have walked about 15 kms around town and Parlament buildings watching the elites again

Orienteering race 28:57 [3] 2.4 km (12:04 / km) +75m 10:26 / km

Oceania Middle Distance at Manga Pirau. Spent the morning watching the elites ducking in and out of sand dunes across the river. Fantastic set up for World Cup event. - After yesterday's introduction to sand dunes, I was very, very apprehensive about today's event. Started off cautiously and things were going ok. Was lucky enough to be led into a potentially tricky 'beach' control. Overtook Kiwi girl and just focused on good nav in the thick, low visibility area. Very happy with run. Winning time 26.22, came 3rd in 28.57. Yeah.

Orienteering race 1:32:58 [3] 6.1 km (15:14 / km) +55m 14:35 / km

Oceania Day 2 at Osgiliath Wood - Hobit country. Terrain varied from beautiful pine forest to incredibly thick forest with low horizontal eye blindingly branches to where am I on the beach. Stuffed up first 2 controls completely. Thought of Simone Niggli and restarted the race. Stuffed it up again down at the beach. Had no idea how to read this stuff!!!
Will have to learn pace counting for when the going gets tough. Winning time 66 mins, my time 92 mins. Although I made several costly mistakes, it was so completely different (in terms of orienteering) to what I have done so far, I was really proud of myself for finishing.

Day 1 of oceania (Fusilier) - beautiful pine forest. Good bearings were needed as terrain was very vague at times. Jenny Adams (NZ) caught up to me at 5. Winning time 50.04. Came 3rd.
