Jukola BOK 3rd team - 1st Leg.
Wanted the experience of this :o) lining up in row 56 of 94 of 1892 teams.
Hadn't rained for 7 weeks according to our host so even walking throwing up dust. Once the tank fired it was mayhem charging down to 450m run out to the start triangle in a cloud of dust which persisted whole way around the course, reflecting in the head torch.
Just not fast enough on the first 2.3km leg and caught in a variety of queues through the terrain.
Happy with navigation in dust and dark but just not quick enough. Had hoped to break 2 hours, but at least no disasters. Right achilles started pulling after #7 which was way to early for a course of this length. Really jarred my rib cage and scar tissue at #13 when tripping over tree roots in the dark.
First mistake into #5 was me thinking I had to navigate on my own into a gaffled control when #4 to #11 were common. The 2 minutes cost me dropping 120 places.
Worst mistake at #15 (gaffled) of #19 controls but near the back by then.
Finished very tired and feeling broken. Crawled away into my sleeping bag to recover.
