Cumbrian Galoppen - Blea Tarn.
Still have the remains of a cold, although mouth ulcer not sooo painful but right inner thigh muscles pulling/sore on jog up forest track during warm up. Not feeling top condition.
Cags compulsory as wet weather.
Set off 1 minute behind Simon Filmore - caught him faffing at #1. Overtook on the approach to #2 and started to pull away when managed to bash my knee on a rock. Slowed and he overtook me towards #3 although my approach was better and punched first. Led him across to #4 where I was still travelling pretty gingerly when Laurence Johnson caught us - trailed LJ to #5 where he punched 30 secs ahead. He disappeared and I worked hard to keep on line towards #6 reading the contours, and as approached control LJ came in from 45deg and punched 30secs ahead again!
Katie Wright caught me on the leg to #7 (she started 2 mins back but lost 3 mins at #1) and then Matt & Becca Rooke passed me leaving #7. Long leg to #8 and rain started harder and made reading the map through raindrops on glasses much more difficult. Beginning to feel tired and although nailed leg, #9 was scrappy in the circle and I couldn't shake off Simon. Led him through #10 and then two long legs on the run for home where our different approaches into #12 meant he finally overtook me and beat me into the finish.
I suppose without cold, mouth ulcer, groin strain and bashed knee would have felt better but still a reasonable result.
