Veum.
Out for slow jog through lovely piece of woodland. Per had hung some red streamers for Danish National team to practice before Blodslitet. Nice course, but every time I reached the control circle it cost me 1-2 minutes to look hard at every tree to "see" red streamers - of course it was more difficult when I wasn't standing in exactly the right place :).

Orienteering race 2:31:12 [3] 12.7 km (11:54 / km) +400m 10:17 / km

Fredrikstad - Blodslitet.
Bread, jam & ibuprofen for breakfast. Not feeling at my best, but arrived at the start feeling okish.
My race was competitive for about the first 5mins before I followed the back of the H40 train over the spur that I didn't need to cross and found myself on wrong path. Corrected quickly but it cost 2mins and the pack were away & I'm 69th of 78 or so at #1. Across the first on two spurs towards #2 I discover that my compass is duff. I know I'm moving west but it continues to tell me I'm moving north. Bugger, only another 11.5km without a compass.
Pretty cautious after this trying to keep total map contact and only come unstuck a couple of times. After a couple of hours I did a big banana away from #18 and wasn't sure of my direction on a path on a bland spur. I asked a couple of people which way North was, thought great and carried on running only for reality to fight its way into my fuddled brain a minute later that with my map being folded I was actually running 180deg the wrong way. Corrected and only a 6minute error!
Very glad and very tired to finish.
Will only 5mins down in 20th (of 82) in H15/16. Angus only 15mins down in 36th.

Travelled to Norway - bed by midnight.

Lovely day - parked at Torver and up Old Man via quarries and Little Arrow Moor (68mins). Along to Levers Hawse, under Swirl How & Great Carrs and up onto Grey Friar (1hr45mins). Down to Seathwaite Tarn dam with bad guts, and then contoured around wall to pick up Walna Scar road. Very tired by then. Followed main track back to Little Arrow Moor & Torver.

From Birkrigg X-roads across Birkrigg, Sea Wood & down onto Bardsea sands.
With Will, Angus, Mike, Tim & Hollie.

Run intervals 15:00 [5]

6 x 45sec efforts with jog recovery (2min recover?).

Run warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Jog back through quarry & flank of Birkrigg. Soon tailed off from others.
But did see a Tawny Owl flying low over the bracken in the gloom.
