Note
(rest day)

S6D - Rest day.
Watching Ospreys fish in the Findhorn - one hit the water within 150m of where I was walking on the beach.

Tuesday Jul 30, 2013 #

12 PM

Orienteering race 54:39 [4] *** 4.5 km (12:09 / km) +65m 11:20 / km
spiked:14/14c

S6D Day3 - Culbin West.
New area as previously been on Culbin East. Managed to jog around the whole course, and the kites kept coming up just where I expected, especially through tricky #7 -> #10. Spiked every one!
Finished 15th of 90ish, big smile.

Monday Jul 29, 2013 #

11 AM

Orienteering race 1:06:38 [3] *** 5.3 km (12:34 / km) +15m 12:24 / km
spiked:17/18c

S6D Day2 - Carse of Ardersier.
Set off steady on a long walking stride/jog as I waned to push harder on Culbin tomorrow. Navigation held up well until I started getting tired on the way to #15 and missed small pit. Went past and then looped back for a 2min error. Forest mch nicer than expected.

Sunday Jul 28, 2013 #

1 PM

Orienteering race 54:31 [4] *** 4.6 km (11:51 / km) +40m 11:21 / km
spiked:11/13c

S6D - Day1 Lossie.
Tried to jog some bits. First 8 controls pretty boring as just off paths. Made error coming out of #7 as was folding map and didn't set compass bearing first. Long legs a chore as moving so slowly. #11 didn't "feel" right and lost a couple of mins - comparing with map from 10 years ago (Moray 2003) then contours had changed, but not completely accurately. Decided on a direct route through green to #13 and nailed the navigation - good feeling.
Sore chest afterwards.

Note
(sick)

Reached Findhorn but have a virus - neck glands swollen - very painful to swallow - unable to lift head as neck tendons very painful.

Thursday Jul 25, 2013 #

12 PM

Run 35:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Grizzly Approach

Loop through Sea Wood, then out behind small hill and plod up to trig point on Birkrigg. Then descend down to ring of stones and back to car - when I was beginning to stride rather than jog - encouraging. However, neck sore since I woke this morning, and right eye sore, and right arm sore. Have to see how I fare tomorrow.

Had a coffee with them for an hour break.

12 PM

Run 32:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Grizzly Approach

Parked up on Birkrigg. Loop of Sea Wood took 13mins, then out above quarry towards Wills' house and then looped back around small hill. Very warm day and managed to keep jogging all of the way. First activity that was slightly more than a shuffle. We'll see how internal swelling/bruising reacts later today . . .

Thursday Jul 18, 2013 #

11 AM

Bike 58:30 [3]
shoes: Bike - Fondriest

Loop before I went to visit the doctor. Standard loop of Birkrigg, Scales, Gleaston, Dendron, Dalton, Birkrigg Park & home. Equalled best time . . . scary. Another hot day, little wind.
Doctor basically told me to listen to my body and that I couldn't do too much damage by exercising :o).

Tuesday Jul 16, 2013 #

Bike 1:18:00 [3]
shoes: Bike - Fondriest

Coast road through Bardsea and Baycliff, headed inland to Leece, back into Gleasten then through the Urswicks to Birkrigg Park and home.

11 AM

Orienteering race 1:15:13 [3] 4.5 km (16:43 / km) +140m 14:28 / km

Harrop Tarn. Travelled with UVHS and took Gard, Dina & Kaisa Antonen. Brutal climb up to the start. Started 3mins behind Dina on Green - waited for her at #2, found her again at #4 (she had missed #3), waited again at #5 and discussed remaining two moorland controls. She exited into the woods ahead of me . . . but I met her at last control. Long run-in where she took 1min 30secs out of my shuffle, but I still beat her. Nice one to get back - warm/hot day.

Saturday Jul 13, 2013 #

5 PM

Bike 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Bike - Fondriest

Out to Birkrigg, Urswick, Lindall, north of A590.

Walk 2:05:00 [3]

Walk anti-clockwise around base of hill. Investigated Hill Fort - unimpressive. Plenty of sheep, hill ponies, buzzards, wheatear & skylark. Another hot, hot day.

Thursday Jul 11, 2013 #

7 PM

Run 1:01:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Harrier

Very warm day, just sitting around. Then reversed Tuesday evenings route to start with a slight uphill shuffle, then climb onto ridge. Body still doesn't like coming down - didn't feel I could do more than quick walking stride downhill and so missed going under the hour.

Wednesday Jul 10, 2013 #

10 AM

Walk 4:27:00 [2]

3 x 1 hour with breaks then final 1hr 27mins. Out to end of ridge, climbed ridge and then looped around to south & return. Hot and cloudy, very tired at the end - had a 45min nap to recover.

Tuesday Jul 9, 2013 #

7 PM

Run 1:13:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Harrier

Travelled down to Ty Gwair, south of Conwy n North Wales.
Straight up hill behind house, trying 2 min jog, 2 min walk. Then East along ridge, descend slope and West back to Cae Coch. Very warm day.

Monday Jul 8, 2013 #

11 AM

Bike 1:01:00 [3]
shoes: Bike - Fondriest

Another fine, warm day, little wind. Attempted normal loop of Birkrigg, Scales, Gleaston, Dedron (suffered on the exit climb, and a lorry passed me and then immediately tried turning left into a field and got wedged. Then onto Dalton and on run across back of Urswick had to stop for 2mins as a builders lorry delivering sand completely blocked the road. Then onto Birkrigg Park, Croftlands and back down Big Dipper for second time.
Very surprised by the time (having removed 2mins waiting for sand lorry!) as only 1 minute down on par time for this loop but all of scars (all 5) are now very sore and telling me about the effort. Have to see how bad they get during rest of the day :o(.

Sunday Jul 7, 2013 #

2 PM

Bike 56:00 [3]
shoes: Bike - Fondriest

Up Croftlands hill, out to Birkrigg Park, Great & Little Urswick, out to Gleaston, then back via Scales & Birkrigg & Big Dipper. Feeling stronger I think on warm day.

Monday Jul 1, 2013 #

6 PM

Bike 45:00 [3]
shoes: Bike - Fondriest

Out along coast road with Angus. He cut off & up over Birkrigg, I continued to ride up the hill beyond Baycliff. Then turned around and retraced my steps.
Bottom of lung had been sore after wielding a crow-bar and claw hammer this morning, stripping lime plaster from the bike store, so glad to complete the session.
