Note
(sick)

Aaand I'm sick. So is the rest of the house. Guess maybe this is why I never felt like I could get in a good rhythm yesterday?

Also possible it's allergies. Stupid trees.

Rumpus in Bumpass Tri

running 15:00 [1] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Short warm-up running gear to/from car

swimming 31:39 [3] 1.7 km (18:37 / km)

63 degrees, wore my sleeveless wetsuit with 2mm neoprene arm warmers so I could leave those on for the ride and a light thermal cap under my race cap. Temperature felt fine, just a little cold when I first got in, but fairly comfortable after a few minutes. Water was choppy from the wind, though, so swallowed more water than I normally would. Tough to sight the buoys, too, so I think i added a few meters.

biking 1:37:20 [3] 23.8 mi (4:05 / mi)

Struggled a bit on the bike, felt like no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't turn my legs any faster. Ended up being a few minutes faster than last year, but I think this course is both a little shorter and not quite as hilly compared to Smith Mountain Lake.

running 1:18:16 [3] 6.2 mi (12:37 / mi)

Really struggled on the run. Guessing a combination of poor sleep the night before and not eating quite enough breakfast (and forgetting my plan to have a gel at each transition) left me physically drained by the run. 1st half mile was also some slippery, shoe sucking mud, which would have been more fun if everyone wasn't so scared of it. Also a woman tried to "warn" me about a snake ahead on the trail, but my "ooh, really? What kind?!" comment must have not been the reaction she was expecting, because she just stared at me like I was nuts.

Note

Meant to go for an easy run today, but my knee was still a little sore near where I thwacked it last weekend, so I figured an extra rest day wouldn't be the end of the world.

biking 35:00 [1] 9.0 mi (3:53 / mi)

Easy ride from TPS to the range buildings and back. Got there later than I had planned, which is pretty much the story of my life- so that got me thinking that as a motto, it's not great, but as an epitaph, it's not bad. These are the things I ponder when left to my own devices.

rowing (erg) 10:00 [3]

strength/core 15:00 [2]

swimming 40:00 [3]

Bit of a taper week for me, with the first tri of the season on Saturday. Not really expecting any phenomenal results for this one, just a gage of how my fitness is looking for some hopefully strong races in the next couple months. Maryland champs are in town on May 19th, so lots of speed work on the horizon.
