orienteering 25:00 [2]

Training course set by Riley at hemlock overlook. Got there later than I had planned, so only had time for a short jog and a few controls before heading to the hotel to meet up with everyone else.

Note

Flew with the Finnish exchange pilot today, and mentioned I'm heading to Finland on Friday for the CISM orienteering championship. He nodded, said "cool", then asked "military orienteering, that's like normal orienteering, right?" I want to live in a country where "normal orienteering" is a thing.

running 34:40 intensity: (4:00 @1) + (10:00 @3) + (20:40 @4) 3.0 mi (11:33 / mi)

warm-up, 4x400, 3x800 track workout with Freak. Goal was steady pacing for each 400 throughout the workout, and I settled in at 2:04 this morning. Not too hot, but quite humid and no breakfast beforehand, so I was feeling a little sluggish at the start, but things started to loosen up nicely after the first couple 400s.

Event: QOC Jug Bay

orienteering 1:22:00 [3] 5.3 km (15:28 / km)

Advanced medium at Jug Bay. Hot today, but otherwise very nice out. Steady through the first loop, then made a few bobbles on the second loop. Kept leapfrogging with Heidi for the last few controls. Nice courses by Peggy, and the ankle felt really good (with tape), so I'm feeling physically ready for Finland. Technically, I'm feeling strong too, but I'm looking forward to the model event to see how I feel in the terrain. Plan for the rest of the week is a hard-ish run tomorrow for command PT, then lots of agility and stretching through the rest of the week and hope the plane ride doesn't cause me to tighten up too much.
