Mining Mystery - Hard 2 (M50)
Great course desverving total concentration which I failed to do for the first 7 controls. Like many lost time at 2 as I couldn't see the control in the long grass. Total fail at 3 where I took the wrong track and started to look for the control before I had even crossed the railway, doh! Missed the track junction at 4 so more time lost. Thought I'd be brave and go for the direct route to 6, total fail and had to relocate off the open area to the north with Jayne catching me for 4 mins here. Once past 7 where I was dragged to the left things started to improve. Bit of a head to head with Miles and then Malin for the rest of the course meant I started to orienteer properly and push myself, something I don't seem to be able to do when I run by myself.

Castle Hill - Hard 2

Leg 1 (Foot, score 10 from 12): 8.25 1.399km
Leg 2 (bike, line): 20.44 4.313km
Leg 3 (foot, line): 23.02 3.903km
Leg 4 (bike, line): 29.09 6.043km

Lost a bit of time on the first leg so lost touch with the leaders. Not then helped by trying to leave the showgrounds on leg 2 (bike) the wrong way losing even more time. A bit of excitment leaving the next control as someone was coming up the path on the wrong side meaning I had to leap of the bike to avoid a head on, managed to stay on my feet so no damage done. A bit sketchy through the next two before getting my eye (and glasses) in. No problems in the 3rd (run) leg. Coming out of transition into leg 4 (bike) I had the wrong map showing so promptly heading off in the wrong direction before realising my mistake. Took the slippery wooden steps down to and back up from 16 & 17, still not sure what was best. Bit of confusion working how to come out of 20 before realising it was an out and back.

A good event, probably one of the best DuoOs, with controls in the right place, accurate map and some thought involved to pick the best route. 3rd in Hard 2 to O-ing & Rob Prentice.
