2 PM

Running warm up/down 12:00 [1] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)

3 PM

Running race (Cross Country) 35:42 [5] 8.01 km (4:27 / km) vdot: 45.1

West Met XC series at North Ryde Common.

A real XC race with mud and rain, the only thing missing was the near freezing temperature. Tough 4 lap race around the common to the south side of Ryde Hosiptal. I even dusted down my spikes, don't think I've worn them since 1997/8 when I had a few races for Ilford AC. Schoolboy error with my laces and had to stop half way round the second lap to retie one of them and lost a couple of places which I never regained. It was a bonus that I could actually feel my hands to undo my laces at the end.

Running 44:00 [3] 8.19 km (5:22 / km)

Easy run with Tony along Shrimptons Creek and back via Mac Centre. Nice to have some blue sky for once.

Orienteering race 1:07:51 [4] 7.53 km (9:01 / km)

QB3 Day 3 Banalasta.

A far better run here than at the Xmas 5 days in 2010. Took it steady, probably losing a bit more time than necessary, but no major issues. Minor wobbles at 10 where there was a lot more rock on the ground and at the last control where I was a bit careless.

All in all my best couple of days in complex granite, glad Ewan & I made the last minute decision to go. It was a shame we arrived too late on day 1 to run but the young lad's football came first (and he scored 2 goals).

Orienteering race 1:01:43 [4] 5.42 km (11:23 / km)

QB3 Day 2 Mount Brown.
Steady run with no major (all relative) issues until 8, the bingo control (100). Probably lost at least 7 mins wandering around the circle like a headless chicken with countless others. Far more rock detail than mapped and not helped by the control being hidden away. It's a shame when a reasonable course is ruined by a pot luck control, if you came across someone coming out of the control you'd do well, otherwise you'd join the masses who lost minutes in the search!
