Orienteering race 22:39 [4] 3.76 km (6:01 / km)

SL3 - Sprint at Newcastle Uni.
This definitely goes down as a fail. Very hesitant to 1 as was struggling to get my head around the map, about 30secs lost. This was nothing compared to 4; left 3 along the right path but then lost contact with the map, seemed to have a brain explosion and couldn't work out where I was causing me to get more and more frustrated. Finally went back to 3 and started the leg again and had no problem realising I had overshot a path junction by 10m when it all went horribly wrong. Losing over 3mins on a 55sec leg meant the race was effectively over. Settled down after that with a steady run but nothing special.

Orienteering race (Shadowing) 13:20 [2] 1.37 km (9:44 / km)

With Nea on the Very Easy course.

This also goes down as another fail but this time Nea had to suffer the ignominy of a mp courtesy of her dad. For some reason I picked up the Easy control descriptions (there were none on the map). The first 2 controls were common but not the third so Nea punched the wrong control. It wasn't until the next control that I realised my error but it didn't twig that we had already made a mistake. A none too happy girl at the the finish!
2 PM

Orienteering race 44:23 [4] 6.34 km (7:00 / km)

SL4 - Middle distance at Pelaw Main.
Reasonably steady for me with only a few wobbles. Overshot 2 but managed to stop myself going too far before correcting. 6 was a bit hit and miss but seemed to be the case for most people so no real time lost there. Lost nearly 2 mins at 7 as didn't see the "derrick" and overshot to hit the track but navigated successfully back to the control. Not sure what happened at 15 as I was following the edge of the lake then suddenly ended up at the railway line. No problems from there to the finish, happy to finish up second in the class and third on the course.

Orienteering race (Shadowing) 18:14 [2] 1.84 km (9:55 / km)

Today we skipped around the course!

Running (Intervals) 52:01 [5] 7.08 km (7:21 / km)

Another interval session, so after months of not doing any have now done two within the space of a week. Same as last week; two sets of 4x400m with 1 min rest between intervals and 5 mins between the sets at Dunbar Park (grass track).

Except for the first two, the times were reasonably consistent with the second set a bit faster than last week. Just need to keep the sessions up and not get injured. Total time includes warm up/down and recovery during & after the session, moving time was 38'36" .

Running 46:39 [3] 9.16 km (5:06 / km)

Ran to Mac Centre where met Paula (birthday girl) and ran along Shrimpton's Creek to water tank, back to Mac Centre and then back to work. Absolutely stunning autumn day. Good to run together for a change with no time pressures.

Orienteering race 36:18 [4] 7.13 km (5:05 / km)

Metro League at UWS, Kingswood. Div B. Once out of the initial complex building section it was a total runners' course. Reading the map for the first part wasn't helped by being at 1:10,000 for a sprint style course and poor quality priniting (as usual). Felt my lack of fitness on the longer, faster legs.

Orienteering 18:46 [2] 1.84 km (10:12 / km)

Shadowing Nea on the Very Easy course, not a lot of enthusiasm today.
