Running 4:49:17 [3] 35.14 km (8:14 / km)

SLWC 4th edition and my first.

11 of us started from North Sydney, but soon down to 10 as Andy took a nasty fall gearing up for the sprint to number 20 - dislocated elbow and a deep cut to his hand with liagment and nerve damage - ouch! Things quietened down after that except for the sprints to every 10th control. Once we were into Lane Cove the numbers started to drop as the lure of home was too much. The traditional Macca's stop, with vast quantities of coke drunk (6 1.5L bottles for $12!). Continued up Stringybark Creek to the Highway where I peeled off at number 134 (as didn't fancy the Artarmon loop), and took in 143 to 150 by myself before calling it a day as just too close to home. Top fun. It's going to hurt tomorrow. Hats off to Mounty who did the whole 200 controls - 56K and 7.5 hours.

Total moving time was 4:09 so there was a lot of faffing on the way.

Running 1:01:55 [3] 11.11 km (5:34 / km)

First and last part of SLWC training. Thought a 11k run in the heat of the midday sun with no water a suitable test. I suppose I'll find out the result tomorrow morning when I wake up.

Work to Browns waterhole along bush track, along GNW to De Burghs bridge and back to work. Definitely harder in this direction, the hills seem longer and steeper.

Note for Saturday; don't forget to put vaseline or plasters on the bits that rub!

Orienteering race 18:37 [4] 3.62 km (5:09 / km)

Bicentennial Park, West Pymble.

Certainly interesting running on a 1:3000 map, things happen even quicker than on a normal sprint map, hence a couple of wobbles on numbers 2 & 3 before things settled down. Probably helped that I had done some map corrections in October so had some local knowledge. Pleased with the result.
