orienteering race 14:37 [4] *** 2.7 km (5:25 / km) +50m 4:57 / km
slept:9.0 (sick) shoes: Asics GT 1000 #3

QB3 Day 3 - Sprint, Coffs Campus
Went out hard, but knew I had to check codes to retain the lead. Confused into #2, navigated a corner too soon at #8, corrected in time to punch wrong control and again to find right one. Stumbled over #12, where others lost time and had seen #13 en route to #11.

Beaten easily by Oing & top W21s, but held off the M50s.

orienteering race 43:31 [3] ** 7.32 km (5:57 / km) +90m 5:36 / km
(sick) shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#4 - blue)

QB3 - long, Bom Bom.

Fast forest, course set to be pretty easy, maybe lost a bit of time drifting too close to creek lines. Freemo and Tony W running faster than me, but Freemo made a biggish blue.

Felt a lot better today than I anticipated.

Into the snotty phase, but we already had accommodation booked and how often do you get to run on a new dune area only 7 hours away ?

Didn't want to make myself sick by running hard, but got sucked in, it was so much fun.

Cautious 1-2, smidge too far W at 3, dropped too low and E at 4. 5-9, clean I think, had started GPS by now. No idea about 10, clean to 11 and I was catching Shane T and Simmo.

Chasing 13 onwards, bodged 14, took "safe route" and missed catching feature. 15 OK, then we all missed 16, Shane realising first. Bugger, flogging myself to no avail. Finally Shane cracked attacking 17 too early, then a burn up to the finish.

A lot of fun, just beaten by other Shane in M45 for course win.

Hope I don't get sicker as a result.

orienteering (mapping) 3:00:00 [1] 8.0 km (22:30 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#4 - blue)

Working on some updates for the Darkes Common map.
Some of the rock is exposed and easily accessible for the first time since mapping sandstone became an art form.

Note
(sick)

Feels like I'm coming down with a cold to end my 11 month cold-free run. Will dose up on fruit and anything else tonight to try to head it off.

RTW - a few trees and some of that giant bamboo down in Ferndale. No too wet, but went in a bog just before climb up to the office.
