run 20:00 [1] 2.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#2)

Run to start - then kept running to keep warm. Went with just short-sleeved O top, so it was nice that the sun came out a couple of times. Still very nervous before running - or still got traces of bug.

orienteering race 1:05:28 [3] **** 7.0 km (9:21 / km) +255m 7:55 / km

Day 3 - Liahovda. As promised, it was tougher both technically and physically.

#1 - opened up map and had no idea how to do leg (which was long but had a choice of two marsh routes or track & marsh) - haven't internalised speed over long marshes. Wasted more time dithering than the difference between them.
#2 - slight overshoot
#3 - first of a couple of 3-500m legs with 70-80m climb. Brutal and I lost a minute at the end when I guessed wrong about how far along ridge I'd hit. Saw a couple of other M45s at this point, but lost them after correcting.
#4-#9 - superb terrain, great views, in contact with map, really enjoyable, but tiring physically
#10,#11 drop off the hill, seem to be hitting controls OK, but not picking up any elephant tracks
#12 followed elephant track out of control instead of navigating. When I broke out of he grot and hit the enormous marsh with lake in sight, brain just froze. Probably spent 40s going "com eon brain"
Rest - straightforwardish, got lucky with #14. V tired but managed to hold off some other old guy on long finish sprint.

That was a lot of fun, and I guess being pantsed by Johan Ivarsson isn't the end of the world.

52/110 (assuming those marked as still out started...)

O-Festivalen day 2. Felt shocking before the start - 7 visits to loo. Not sure if its because I'm still sick or because I was nervous about the long course (last visit to Norway I was last 5/5 days from memory).

Start was above the tree line and we had a few legs across mainly open mountain terrain, with low vegetation, snow, bogs and contours. Didn't feel as though I was running hard, but I was cold. Fairly clean but conservative through until 4 where I wasted a few minutes before relocating upwards (which was good because I was too low). Then cleanish through to 11-12 where I lost contact (was too low again). Had a cup of v cold water about then. After that I struggled to be decisive and was lucky to hit a train of people for last few controls, still missing 50% of them.

about 75/109 - as Lummo says, they are all good here.

"short long" tomorrow. Should be able to run as fast as I can navigate.... and won't wear a helly & O top.

Event: O-festivalen

run 8:00 [3] 1.6 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#2)

Race to start... got there in time to jump into middle box

orienteering race 26:29 [3] 4.5 km (5:53 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212 (#2)

"Sprint" race at Beitostolen. 3.6 km course, in bush and a bit through the village. First leg was straight into the green which was a bit of a shock. Fairly easy navigationally, maybe lucky with the two or three hard controls.

26th/101 - probably as good as it will get.

run 36:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:09 / km) +30m 5:02 / km
shoes: Asics Gel-1160

Gentle a.m. run to see if body still works. Looks as though this bug has pretty much gone, bar some loss of appetite.

weight:73.1kg (sick)

Weight loss is tapering off, about time to start feeling better and exploit my new super slimness.

Tuesday Jun 19, 2012 #

weight:73.8kg (sick)

Feeling a bit better, but have managed to drop another 2 Kg, makes about 5 all up, I guess mostly fluids.

Not sure if we'll make the flights to Norway.

Sick as the proverbial dog.
Alexa was a bit sick on the flight to Singapore, Lyra and I seem to have caught it in a major way afterwards.
