Forest Orienteering race (Rogaine) 3:45:00 [3] 25.0 km (9:00 / km) +700m 7:54 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Pretty cool rogaine down at ellendale. Ran with jade so pace was pretty cruisy but we only missed 290 points. Terrain varied with a shitty hillside 1.5km long that took 30 minutes to contour around, to some nice open runable pine forest. Used tracks a lot because it was designed as a MTB rogaine but was still pretty fun. Could have probs got all controls because we cruised around the last 30 minutes and got back with 15 to spare.

Good ride with shaun and ash. Rode from shauns house, loop around riverside, out to legana, bakc to royal park and then heritage loop with ash who we met at royal. Then slugged it to pauls house to drop odd ash's bike for the rogaine and back to shauns. Poured with rain for the last 30 minutes, fair to say i got drenched.

Pretty good running today with relatively low navigation. Running was really slow in parts, espcially at the end so this slowed time considerably. Also faceplanted about 3 times in one part where the grass was the same legnth but the actual ground went up and down with potholes which made you trip over.

Chilled ride with shaun, bec and todd. was pretty slow into the wind out to legana but a nice breeze back. Bit slower than usual as todd struggled. Shaun and bec rode on but I had to get back for a dinner so I pumped it back up to Shauns by myself.

50km charity road race. Rode with ash and shaun and was pretty fun. We beat most of the road bikers but slowed down at the end cause ash was pretty buggered.

Race for a Wish charity race from Aurora Stadium. Was aiming for 3:30 kms which I got so I was happy with that. Wind was pretty strong and seemed to be coming from every direction so time could have come down a little bit. Also legs were a little sore from yesterday and my second place was a little unexpected. Going from this time my goal is to get under 17 minutes for a 5km, under 9:40 for a 3km and 4:30 for a 1500m.

Orienteering twilight at punchbowl. Alright run but wasn't the best preperation, as a poor warm-up due to a late turn up of the clear and check and I wasn't hydrated enough. Still felt I kept a stong, steady pace the whole way.

Good ride with Shaun on heritage loop. Met up with Todd at royal and did some bitch as resistance training on the way back to Shauns. Stayed in top top gear from royal park back to eccelstone road on the west tamar highway. Pretty hard. Also really hard climb at the end.

Went rock climbing at school, only 3 of us so we each had about 30 minutes of climbing.

Decent afternoon ride with shaun, mostly roads becasue shaun still can't really go off-road. Met up with todd at royal and he joined us for the heritage/ravenswood/inveresk loop. Hard trek back to shauns house, all uphill.

Cycling test thingy for a TIS rowing test. Was pretty hard, had to go up 60 watts every minute. When I got to the 400W I couldn't hold it and ended up stopping. Also did a leg press, arm press and arm pull. Not the best at the arm tests so it looks like I'm not going to be Australias next top rower..

Easy as twilight at Inveresk. Ran really well but it was really like a tempo training session.

Bit of a carnival wrap up, will log the actual races later.

Oceania Long Distance
First race of the carnival and I was the last starter. Bit under-aroused at the start and struggled to get used to the scale through the first 4 controls. Lost time at all, about 4-5 minutes all up. After that I was really smooth, ran well with good routes on the long legs and only one more mistake on control 6 where I came off my bearing by about 200m. Really happy with how I went and felt like I was running really well and didn't lose it at the end like at easter. Happy with the 3rd place and 2nd Australian.

Oceania Middle Distance
Not too happy with todays effort. Good warm up and felt comfortable with the model map. Navigation was shaky from the start, struggled to keep in contact with map on the way to 1 and had to relocate near the control. Alright through 2,3, mistake at 3, 5,6 good and then it started. Lost another 1:30 at 7 with a poor route and mistake and then the horror. 17:50 on number 8. Good bearing out of 7 but then didn;t check map and kept running. Knew something was wrong but kept going and went around in a big loop trying to relocate, ending up back at 7. Again a good bearing but then lost contact and kept running. Stood around for a minute, relocated and then walked to the control. Rest of the course was shaky with a few more minute errors so not the best run and the 21st place shows this.

Schools Individual
Headed out alright, smooth through the first 3. Then made a 13 minute error on 4 when I dropped height on the hill, landed on the wrong track, checked my compass and made a huge 180. Ran for ages with the warning sirens going off but didn't stop. Eventually figured out that it had to be wrong and ran all the way back. After that I was a little tired but still felt quite strong running until the end. Two more 1-2 minute errors on 8 and 9 and then a powerful walk/run up the hill at the end.

Schools Relay
Told myself to concentrate the whole race today after the shocker of yesterday. Was leading through the first 2 or 3 but then a small error on 4 caught everyone up to me. Keen to catch up to the bunch I left the control without a bearing and then came out in the wrong place on the track. Started running along the wrong track but realised early and only had about a 1:30 mistake. Smooth through 6,7 and 8 and then another 1:30 mistake on 9 with a poor route choice. Another 1 minute mistake on the hill where I visited every split control, where kurt passed me. Wasn't going to let kurt beat me so I smashed the last bit. 2nd on leg and 5th overall wasn't to bad but could have been faster.

Oceania Sprint
The main aim with this last weekend for me was to keep in contact all the time, slow down and make hopefully no errors. Ran quite smooth through the race and only two 1 minute mistakes at 6 and 8 where I lost contact. Pretty happy with the 8th place but could have done much better.

Austarlian Long
Mike had told me the night before to slow down to 50% at the start of the race, both to conserve energy and ease into the race. Used this advice and ran smootly throught the first 4 with no errors except for a few 10 second errors on entry to the control. The controls through the thick stuff I was really good on, a small 30 sec-1 min on 9. Happy with my long leg route choice and felt really smooth through the loop at the bottom except for a 30 sec error on 15. Again really smooth again until right at the end where I lost 1:30 on 22,23 which lost me 2nd place. Overall really happy with my run as I have shown myself that without mistakes I can match it with the other guys.

Oceania Relay
Ran with Tasmania on the 1st leg which was bound to be pretty fast with olle, max, duncan and kas racing. Got stuck in fence on the way to 1 after I watched Olle do a hectic jump over the top of it. Had to get helped out and by the time I was running Olle had a 30 second gap on me. Couldn;t catch it up but decided to run my own race and was suprised when I caught max and duncan at 6 after to safe route choices and a mistake on 6 that lost me about 2 minutes. Mistake on 7 and then smooth from there to the finish after a pushed away from max on the track to 10. Pretty happy with my run and agian 2nd on the leg and 5th overall.
