Orienteering race 29:03 [4] 3.5 mi (8:18 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (ex Lulu)

JK Relay, Pippingford Park.
4.8km, 150m.
Running first leg of the M165+ relay with Paul Bradbury and Tim Tett. Shared the course and mass start with the Women Open. I was racing with Jo Shepherd, Julie Emmerson, Fiona Bunn and Laura Robertson which was much fun. Julie leading most of the first half but Fiona would have been if she hadn't kept going to the wrong gaffle (she passed me 3 times!). Jo took the lead on the second half and I got dropped on the last hill. Quite happy to finish within 30 seconds of the top girls and first of the old men. Tessa did 25 on last leg though!
Calf was fine. Can't understand what the problem was. In my head again?

Orienteering race 20:00 [3] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (ex Lulu)

JK day 3.
Retired on way to #5.
Calf pretty good but I was struggling with the orienteering. In my opinion the quality of the map just wasn't good enough for our premier event. Vegetation mapping unreliable and inconsistent. It was around a minute quicker to go around the completely white block of forest en route to #4 than cut through. Also the contours and other brown features poorly mapped. I lost a minute in the circle at #1 through no fault of my own.
Long walk/ jog back.

Trail running 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: VJ Integrator (ex Lulu)

Steady jog to the start. Calf better than yesterday so decided to start.

Orienteering race 31:52 [3] 3.5 mi (9:06 / mi)
(injured) shoes: VJ Integrator (ex Lulu)

JK Day 2. Middle Distance, Ambersham Common.
M50L, 5.0km, 120m.
Calf strapped with kineosetic tape. Slight soreness started on 2km jog to the start. Set off at steady pace and soreness stayed at bearable level although with occasional sharp twinges. Navigation pretty clean but surprised to finish 3rd.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

I was never planning on running JK Sprint. Lots of walking around and spectating. Not the only old man doing the same today.
Calf ok walking. Wearing skins all day and keeping fingers crossed that yesterday's calf pain might have been a false alarm.

Golf with Mick. Matchplay finished after 11 holes with me 6 up.

Trail running 9:00 [3] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
(injured) shoes: New Balance 1080v4

B*****ks! Set off for an easy pre-JK leg stretcher but felt sharp twinge in L calf after 1 mile. Walked home. Ice.
Not a major tear just the usual (although not for a while now) small pull. If I were sensible should probably forget about the JK and concentrate on BOC. However when have I ever been sensible? I'll probably give it a go on Saturday. What timing!
Not sure what I can learn this time. It was my R calf which tightened up last week not the L which I've now torn. Maybe the tightening should have told me to get an immediate massage? Also of note that I wasn't wearing my skins today which is very rare. Coincidence or a significant factor?
