JK Day 3, Bigland.
M50L, 7.4km, 250m.
Another late start, this time with Clive 6 mins behind me. At least I'd find out the result pretty soon after I finished.
Started well again, catching my 1 min man (Nick L) at #3. Lost direction coming out of #5 and had to use the crossing point to the right of the line. Unsettled I then lost confidence heading to #7 and went for a 2 min wander. Nick would have re-caught me had he not missed #5. Good again after that with the exception of #19 where I made the mistake of following Jon E for a breather.
#14 to #15 was a leg I'd pretty much predicted and took the route I had pre-planned to good effect. As it turned out this was probably decisive in my overall victory (map geeking is worthwhile!). 2nd to Big Jon (57.33) on the day but just sneaked the overall win after Clive lost 4 mins at #4. The three of us were all within 25 seconds overall.
So happy not only for the win but just to finish and be able to compete after 3 consecutive no finishes at the JK. Much of the credit for this is due to Kim B (for good advice and encouragement) and Richard H for the painful massages which have kept my calves in working order. Will I risk the Sprint again next year?
