Kjarvik-McCulloch Loop
6:39 AM; Washburn, WI

6.4 °C; Clear
Lovely morning. Cold start, was amazed to see frost on the shaded portions of driftwood. It got warmer quickly. Saw a few deer on McCulloch but missing our friend Cody the obese lab, and his owner. I think their place has been sold already. Switched out the SD cards in the trail cams. Much raking and cleaning around the property after we came back, while waiting for friend Joe P. to arrive.

Onion to Sioux River
9:40 AM; Washburn, WI

8.7 °C; Partly cloudy
Must have either not pushed the start button or forgotten to do so, just got the way back to the Onion. Pleasant, little wind, started overcast, then clearing. Lugged the heavy Sigma lens but was a little too late to catch many birds. There were a couple of geese that were complaining loudly. I think they were trying to lure us away from their nest. It worked, both dogs were swimming after them. After returning, I cleaned up some of the branches that came down from the snow and also pruned deadwood from the firs, we can have a nice bonfire tonight. Put one of the studded tires on the front MTB wheel, need to get another inner tube to complete the job on the rear wheel. Riding on the ice will be as easy as switching out summer to winter wheels. Oh, and I started some bread dough. A busy morning.

Onion River to Bayview Park
3:09 PM; Washburn, WI

6.8 °C; Partly cloudy
Quick walk after the drive. Was kind of a slog, wearing hiking boots. The beach is quite narrow these days and the NE wind brought in decent surf. Had to walk through the soft sand on top of the beach.

First EU workout of the new season! Karl picked me up at 6:00. Good turnout, I'd say almost 20 athletes. 15' warm-up followed by bounding technique review and some ski walking. Then 5 x 3' L3 bounding intervals. Good workout and fun to see everyone from last year as well as a few new faces!

Happy hour at Rojo with colleagues visiting from India. A fun time but having a beer with a margarita chaser plus various cheesy appetizers is not conducive to bicycle operation. Took the short way out of time but was met by some headwind on the open stretches. Glad to expend some of those calories ingested.
