Lovely morning, went to Dunn Bros to pick up the weekly beans. Saw a wrong-way driver on the divided Summit Ave. She kept going fast in spite of the honking cars. Dogs and I could but shake our heads. Also, a rare sight of the AmTrack Empire Builder at the crossing near Creative Lighting. I thought they had stopped coming through the midway when the Saint Paul stop was moved to the old depot, downtown. It still comes through the Midway, it just doesn't stop here any longer.

Lynn thought that the History Museum would be a good place to find some presents for the folks we're visiting in Europe and the weather was amenable to do the trip by bike. So we did. Excruciatingly slow for someone who likes to cover distance. But what a lovely day! Glad none of the trinkets we purchased got damaged during the bumpy ride along Marshall and Victoria S of I-94.

Still windy, but it's different to riding a bike. Thought to do the longer walk, to Lexington but decided to do the usual and work in the garden. It's certainly needed. Planted canna and dahlia bulbs and cleaned out some of the dead stalks. More of this tomorrow.

Windy and warm. The segment from TPC to the river was amazing, it felt like the wind was pushing me back. Fortunately, the rest of the trip was better, not quite enough to make up for lost time. But hey, it's Friday after work, no hurry, no worry.

Amazing what 10 minutes does, the roads were so much busier this morning at 6:30 than at 6:20. Beast mode for a good part of the ride. I would have been almost 2 minutes faster hadn't it been for a long light downtown. But such is life, still an excellent workout and fast commute to work. The lack of wind was of great help this morning.

Not as epic of a ride as this morning but a nice ride it was. Again, pretty busy around the Stone Arch Bridge and Mill City Ruins.

Another long ride to work, with a steady headwind that felt rather cold. It was below 10 °C for most of the ride and I wished I had warn finger gloves. Saw Julie near the Guthrie. By the time I got to N 22nd Av, the sun was out. The pavement was moist from the overnight rains, more so, as I moved north. I wonder if they had showers later than farther south or if this was related to some shelter provided to woods along the roads and trails. Very few riders, walkers and runners out. No problems today with finding my way along Rush Creek Trail. It adds a couple of km but the scenery and absence of car traffic is well worth the effort.

When we stepped out of the backyard, we formed a right isocele triangle with two other dog walkers and with us at the 90° angle. Then we saw a guy being pushed sitting in a chair with its legs on two skateboards followed by a Mayan woman in full Mesoamerican do-up including a feather crown carrying a baby in a car seat. If the Age of Asparagus isn't upon us I don't know.

Very pleasant temps. No hesitation riding on Rush Creek Trail, I do know the way now, it's imprinted. Stopped a couple of times for photo ops I had noticed on the ride up, once a fishing pier, just S of 694, then a flooded bike trail, next to Shingle Creek. Wind was generally in my favor, much better progress than this morning. The river trail around downtown was super congested. No wonder, with this beautiful weather. Snelling, on the other hand, was calmer, I guess i was at the tail end of rush hour.

Riding in short sleeves. Uncertain weather, indeed, there was wet pavement along most of UMN Transitway. Just as I turned the last corner, heading for the entyr of TCC, it started raining. Did say already that riding into DT Minneapolis coming from the north sucks? All that stop and go.

Pleasant walk. Yesterday, an old timer at the Hamline and Hewitt corner said to us "And why are you walking on this side of the road?" It took me only a second to get it. There is a new owner on the last house before Pierce Butler. There are two ferocious yippers in the yard, giving every dog walker and their charges an earful. I laughed. We have actually always head south on Hamline on his side and north on the yipper side and still do. The yippers were out today and gave us an earful.

Generally a normal ride, was a little worried about getting wet because of dark clouds to the west, spectacular sunrise, east. The downtown bridges were lit up by the rising sun, so much so that I decided to ride down to the bottom of Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock & Dam. Never had done that, thought it was a closed area but apparently it's public access. Unfortunately, the sun was back behind clouds by the time I got down there. A little sprint on CLT. The strong wind was generally not a factor, might have even been helpful.

Never ceases to amaze me. last week I was still skiing, this week, I am cycling and walking in near 28 °C temps. Dogs are obviously suffering from the heat and seeking out shade. Nature is literally exploding out of hibernation. I checked with a cousin in Belgium who is keeping notes on phenology after finding a snowdrop flower while cutting brush this weekend. They had their first snowdrop on January 10.

Was a little worried about the wind. Decided that a due south wind while going home is not so bothersome, except on Snelling. And that is a rather short stretch.d but it wasn't that bad.

Como Golf Course

Dogs finally got their due this week, with this longer walk and much off-leash time. Lovely morning with a cool wind, felt almost underdressed. I was wondering whether the golf course was going to be open for business, it was, but not entirely. The Glacier and quite a few other greens were still fenced off. We bisected the area as usual, by walking along the ridge. Towards the end, I heard noises as if someone was doing donuts in a parking lot. Since it was also coming from the zoo, I thought it might be their onagers. Turned out to be Sparky, they were having the show. Got a close-up view of one of the wolves, who was sniffing around near the western edge of his area. Could see the people watching him from within the zoo. He did not notice us, the wind was coming from the east. In the woods in the very SW corner of the park, two deer jumped off. The dogs did not notice, too much other stuff to keep their noses in. Returned along the tracks to Oscar Johnson Arena. Super nice walk!
