Drove S on Hwy 61 to look for some birds. General destination was Frontenac SP. I mentioned Barn Bluff when we were driving through Red Wing and we decided to stop there. Only saw some turkey vultures and a blue heron. But we enjoyed the vistas in all directions. American pasque flowers were in full bloom, too. After the hike we shopped for firehose pants at Duluth Trading (I did , at least) and had a tasty dinner at the St. James Hotel.

A usual very quiet Friday. The wind was still mostly calm. The big running club was going along W River Rd.

Only short walk tonight, attending year-end party for Lynn's work's students. HS track meet (state?) at Hamline Klas Field, quite a hubub and parking nuisance in the neighborhood. But not toobad if you have a garage.

This was a pretty decent workout, except for going south on Snelling, a relentless wind seemed to be always in my face. My AHR is the proof. All cyclists were struggling. But still mild enough to make do with a t-shirt and no gloves. Instead of spray from melt run-off it's now dust kicked up by the wind. At 15th and 6th, it smelled like farm yard.

Lovely ride in, no wind, except on W River Road past the Stone Arch Bridge, on C:T and downtown. I cautiously rolled across Nicollet Mall against red coming from sidewalk to sidewalk, after seeing no vehicle in either direction. There must have been a cop car in the line of cars, a loudspeaker yelled WAIT several times and something else unintelligible. Guilty as charged, but I never do this unless I am absolutely certain that I am not impeding anyone. I did not wait around to find out who yelled and ducked into the TPC courtyard, behind the safety of a locked gate.

Lovely afternoon, a little windy, but not bothersome. Quite a few jogging steps today, so much easier when the ground is dry and soft.

Strongish wind from the north, not much of a factor except in the downtown area and on CLT. After that, it was mostly from the side, giving me a nice hand going south on Snelling. No more wet sections on the trails. Nice speed, too, my cycling legs are definitely back!

Cooler morning, used the shortest possible route to make it in time for yoga. Dislike coming into DT Minneapolis from the north very much.

Did the 6:30 class with Megan, 45 minutes instead of the usual 30 minutes on Tuesdays. More reps made me reconsider the weights I picked 10 lbs for the heavy set. A faster pace, too, with some fast movement segments built in, to get the heart rate up. I was dripping sweat within 15 minutes. My arms were getting heavy. Good class, the only thing I did not care for was the higher music volume.

After I got out of downtown, it was a lovely ride. Quite busy on Como Ave, had to swallow dust from a semi that had just pulled into the road. the big puddle on Pierce Butler just east of Snelling is almost gone. Dry enough not to get soaked while riding through, o my usual route is open again.

First longer ride, heading for meetings at TNC. Happy that it did not get as cool as initially forecast. had to cross some leftover snow/ice left over from bridge plowing, I think when I was going under Lowry Bridge in N Mpls. No wind, very happy about that, too, since later today the wind was going to pick up, blowing from the north. Sun rising on my right, across the river, which is swollen, but nowhere near flood stage. First time I rode without hesitation and error until I go to Brooklyn Park, where I wanted to repeat my ride along Rush Creek Trail. Unfortunately, I left the trail too soon and ended up doing the last 2-3 km on the wide, suburban boulevards. Saw some wildlife, too, some gobblers and a cooper's hawk. I nice commute and good ride.

Nice cooldown after the bike ride home. I started by removing some of the coprolites from our backyard the snowmelt uncovered. A lot actually, tried to do this while paying attention to to a good squat position, no pun intended.

Tried to go back via Rush Creek Trail, I guess I have to do this map in hand. Got the start right but I overestimated the distance from TNC to the trail. I recall crossing it, there was no sign and me thinking "this is too soon." Eventually, I joined it where I left it in the morning. From then on, the ride was a blast, with a significant tailwind. the stretch from downtown Minneapolis to home gave me a taste what it would have felt like riding into this wind. Temps were good, too, I wore my Craft jacket without a t-shirt and shorts, no gloves. I do love that route, too long for a daily commute but perfect for the occasional ride. I need to also suggest that to my family for a paddle share outing, see pictures on FB.

Lovely ride to work! Looks like this afternoon, it's shorts and t-shirt. Compared to the last few rides to work, the presence of cyclists has proliferated, as the many tracks exiting wet spots on the pavement evidenced.

Wow, so warm! Wearing bike shorts and a tee, no feelings of chill whatsoever. Many revelers near Stone Arch Bridge. Karl emailed me later that he saw me pass him on Northern Pacific #9 and called out to me, then saw me take a couple fo selfies. I did not hear him. No wind, either.

The lovely morning continues. Grabbed lil' Roux and the MTB, clicked in the bikejoring extension bar and off we went, first along the beach, where Roux followed me rather than taking the lead. Not sure if this was because the crust was hurting his feet. At Friendly Valley Beach where Roux was put on the rope, we saw that Liz' van was still there. Things changed on Kjarvick, deer kept crossing, left to right. The first time was a shock, because I was not sure whether I could control him. He ran into his harness and kept pulling but he listened very well to "on-by," not even trying to run after the deer into the forest. This continued down McCulloch, where I took him off the rope for the steep down hill. He did listen like the well behaved dog he is and kept up with me, rolling down at near 30 km/h. Good pup, and good ride!

Onion to Sioux River

Another perfect morning. No wind, sunshine, not too cold. Not many birds this morning, lugging the telephoto for naught. When we came back from the Sioux, we ran into Liz and Chloe, who, cup of coffee in hand and breakfast in her backpack, were going to have an early morning picnic at the Sioux. Of course Roux and Chloe had to roughhouse a little. Returned to get ready for the bike ride.
