Not too warm bu muggy. Yesterday I had noticed a keyboard drawer in a dumpster. brought my heavy load carrier (typically used for a 1/4 barrel of ale ;-) ). So I arranged to come by said dumpster towards the end of our hike. There were two keyboard drawers, much better than my own, which I had bought at the PPL Shop. I could not leave one behind so I strapped both in. 20 Kg. Not quite as heavy as that quarter barrel. Saw Erik and Elsbeth jogging down while I was trudging up the Hamline pedestrian bridge, they asked "what are you carrying in that backpack?" :-) I hope they didn't stumble over the guy sleeping rough at the bottom of the ramp. The 1.5 km I had left turned out a little harder than the first 5.5 km ...

Rather quiet in terms of bike commuters and runners. The former may be because of the likelihood of inclement weather for the ride home today (and it's Friday, a quiet commuting day) and the latter because of the earlier hour and humid air. I did notice the edge of high clouds moving in from the west, covering the sky by the time I made it from shower and barber to office.

Every ride home on a Friday is a nice ride! The severe weather forecast from earlier today evaporated as the morning ended and muggy sunshine for the ride home. It was ver quiet, typical for a Friday. Took the route through S St. anthony and Pierce Butler to stay out of the hot and humid wind.

Sweaty walk with the dogs. Did some arm and shoulder strength and stretching exercises while walking. Finally saw the robin whose alarm call I had heard during every walk this week. I assume the robin has a fledgling in the area. The call was so soft and seemed to come from everywhere at the same time so I was not sure where to look.

Coffee run and Pt with Elizabeth. When I walked out of Dunn Bros, I ran into Wally, one of Colin's friends dads. We chatted for quite a while, he is also an avid cyclist and xc skier. PT was good and so was the variation on the ride to work.

Eager dogs, after we skipped our walk yesterday because of inclement weather and visitors. Saw Bree and baby Plus dog Frankie in Horton Park Hot, but it did not feel oppressive. After I got home, I mowed the lawn. That felt more oppressive ...

Odd wind, seemed to be variable, first coming from the north, then from the south. May have just been that there was not much wind. Made an effort to keep up a good pace but I still have to build up that stamina I used to have. It's coming, though.

Started to rain as i walked towards TPC and it let lose when I left on my bike. The rain wasn't torrential but steady enough to soak me within a few blocks of riding. I opted to cut the ride short, going up Park, then again by cutting through S st. Anthony. There was some thunder and lightning but never so close that I considered taking the train. I was wet, but I would have been wet from riding the short stretch home from the green line. All I can say is that if it had been Belgian rain, it would have been much more uncomfortable. Like 12 °C instead of 22 °C uncomfortable.

Humid but not too warm. We got a good soaking last night and for parts of the day and one can tell by looking around. The trees are still looking stressed but the herbaceous plants look much better. Dogs looked much better, too this afternoon. Saw neighbor Diane when I got home, she was all excited about national night out and about a new vegan restaurant where the old Eden (or Checkerboard?) pizza place used to be. I guess I will have to try vegan. Never a dull moment.

Not too many cyclists out today, must be afraid of the weather. This afternoon I thought i'll never make it home dry. But the clouds got thinner or higher and the rain was done. Took it very easy.

Nice ride, a cool start to a day that promises to be a hot and humid one. Since I got a little later start than usual, the roads and trails were busier but not bothersome.

In one word: sultry. Neighbor Tim, who took his dog out for a walk around the block reminded me to drink a lot. The grass is turning yellow, the crown vetch is folding up its leaves and many shrubs are letting their leaves hang down. I noticed the impact of the sun on my Garmin Tempe probe and tried to keep it in my shadow for the last part of the walk. Dogs were panting too hard to drink much when we arrived, they needed to cool down first.

When I stepped out of 1000 Nicollet Mall to cross the street to TPC, the heat took my breath away. It was a hot one, but bearable. I saw quite a few runners who were obviously suffering. At the E end of the Dinkytown Greenway I saw a dad with a toddler in the child seat pointing into the shrubbery. I asked what they were seeing, it was a young rabbit. They better not know what my neighbor Luke and I were discussing while his dog Kiko was sniffing out the bunnies in his back yard and mine did the same thing on our side of the fence ...

Another day, another lake. Wind from NNE driving breakers onto the beach, as high as the vegetation. Continued erosion is obvious and I keep wondering when the lake will break through to the coastal wetland behind the sand berm. I am expecting that a fall storm will sweep across the berm within the next few years.
Met a few people along the way, two couples with a pair of dogs, each. The first, a back young couple with a Rhodesian ridgeback and another dog of similar size and coloring were friendly and laid back about their dogs making friend with mine. The second had their dogs way ahead of them, they were friendly setter-type dogs. I noticed their RC training collars and the frantic behavior of the woman owner. Having her jaw set and muttering an apology about her unruly dogs (IMHO not all that unruly) she was obviously not happy about not being able to control her dogs. I use a training collar on Roux, but very sparingly and only if absolutely necessary. I don't even have him wear it when we are at the beach and he still listens very well, like now, too. Felt bad for her and for her dogs ...
Chatted with the older couple from Whiting Rd and learned their names, Lowell and Sonya, big golden retriever.
