Elm Creek OD Skate Ski
8:49 AM; Elm Creek Park Reserve

4.2 °C; Chance of rain
Quite unbelievable that we are still able to ski after 5 solid days of thaw and some rain.12 hamster laps got us to 30.5 km in less than two hours. The first lap and half one of one of the later laps were no poles and a lap in the middle was double poling. Felt good to be skiing, V2 technique continues to make slight improvements. Only a few drops early on, then a more steady rain. There was a peak number of skiers around 10 AM, then dropping of again. Very good to be out!

Sad to see the sorry state of snow, really not much left in the open areas. Instead, puddles everywhere mucky grass and dirt with with frost about a couple cm below ground. Huge puddles, almost temporary ponds in any dip in the terrain. Does not look good for the Loppet ...

The guy sitting in front of me on train was asleep and would every 30 seconds almost fall of the bench causing myself and two other passengers to hold our breath, sometimes starting to hold him back. Me, being the nearest, ended up holding his shoulder during a particularly deep drop. another passenger suggested he should take the window seat, which he did.

Sisu MYR: Skate Skiing 9 x 4:00 @ L4
6:41 PM; Hyland Park Reserve

Decided to take it easy today, not participating in the intensity workout because my legs were rather tired from the three days of skiing this last weekend. Decided to focus on technique instead, V2, weight and body over ski. I started slowly, increasing my speed gradually with every lap. Jake mentioned that my knees tend to collapse inward and that I try to compensate by sticking my shoulder out. So I worked on that. I have to say, my V2 on firm surface is much better than it was last year. Last two laps I pushed it a little. All in all, this seemed like a pretty easy workout compared to my weekend skis outings.

Wolverine Skate Skiing Outside Lap
7:43 AM; Wolverine Trails. Ironwood MI

-8.7 °C; Clear
Did the outside lap without the beginner loop but with Cliff Hanger. Legs are tired (at least in part because of starting each ski with climbing the ski hill) but taking advantage of being up here. Three encounters with the groomers, the last time I was just getting ready to take Wolverine Trail from Cliff Trail northbound in a tuck when I saw them rounding the corner. glad I wasn't already going because they were grooming two abreast. Other than that, it looked like I was the only skier out there. Beautiful sunrise!

Wolverine Skijoring Mellie and Roux
10:08 AM; Wolverine Trails, Ironwood, MI

-5.3 °C; Clear
Before the long trip home, two laps around the beginner loop with the wild beasts. Mellie's constantly dipping for snow slowed us down. Still speedy and fun, though! Nice chat with a couple from Duluth.

-6.2 °C; Clear
1/15/2017 - 9:49 AM:
Nice overdistance workout, two times the ouside loop, the first one with Beginner Loop and Cliffhanger, the second lap with half the Beginner Loop and Cliff Trail. Nice trail-side chats with other skiers and I passed David, with whom I exchanged some words while skiing alongside. Decent southery wind and milder temps.

Saw Jason and Noque at the Chalet, he was just getting started for his evening workout. Asked how Seeley Hills went for him, he said "cold." Dogs did great, Mellie had a pit stop early in the workout, then fast movement throughout.

Less distance than yesterday, but a very motivated little Roux. Wonderful weather, spring skiing, wearing a mesh shirt under windbreaker.
