Had planned to try out "in person absentee voting" (how crazy is that for an oxymoron?) this year, since it was available and since this day lent itself to a little detour on the bike. Went down Bruce Vento Trail, where I stopped to chat with the train buff who always stands on the bridge near the nature sanctuary. Then on to 90 Plato Blvd, crossing the river on Robert St. When I got to the Ramsey Cty building, the parking was already a mess and people were standing out the building. I asked some people who just came out about ETA, they thought 20 minutes. I decided to stay. It was pretty much exactly 20 mins till I was done. by that time, the line had doubled in length and was snaking around the building. On to Breadsmith, via the Big Rivers Trail and the 35E bridge. I had a Jamba Juice smoothy, too, prepared by Colin's highschool bud Sam, who insists on calling me "Mr. Franken." He now manages several Jamba Juice stores around the Twin Cities. One of his sisters was working there, too. After bread purchase, homeward.

Gorgeous morning for a workout, the pavement was surprisingly clean considering the season. Must have been the dry and calm weather we've been having.
After a short warm-up we did three sets of 5:00 each of double poling and single sticking. I needed that! A short cool-down at the end.

Coffee beans trip to Dunn Bros Grand Ave. Very quiet on way over there, On the way from home to Dunn's, not a single car passed me in the neighborhood, on Hamline, Summit and Grand Ave. Not so quiet on the 200 m or so on Cretin. Was almost hit by two cars that careened around me (I have a bright blinky out back and I am wearing a reflective vest). Stopped at the river flats again for pictures of various bridges and the East Bank. The results from last time's shoot weren't satisfactory. I adjusted the settings of the camera before leaving home and am hoping for the best.

If I hadn't read the weather forecast and been riding with short sleeves, I would have thought SNOW from looking at the clouds, those clouds with yellow rims. Alas, not quite yet ... There was some action at Midway Motel, an ambulance and a fire truck.

Guy on fixie was riding next to me on road while I was on bike trail N of TCF Stadium, we both turned onto campus connector and I kept up. Strong young guy, he noticed me at the ZAP beeper at Hampton (Surly). He tried to get away and I kept up. Finally, he gave up, let me do the stretch N of Energy Park Drive by myself.

Great workout. Program called for 8-10 x 3:00 at L3-L4.
Mike B, Jim C and coach Jake did 9, I did 8 with Jamie, Matt, Andy and J. Doing the A climb, then the little squiggle to the second step of the A climb, then down to the first light. Plenty hards. Back to the start for more. Had to beat into the bushes for an emergency pit stop. Worked fine. Good warm-up before the intervals, soso cool-down after. Saw a deer standing on top of the sledding hill while waiting for the rest of the team to return.

Forgot to tun on timer till I reached W River Parkway. A fine mist throughout my ride home. Not enough to even make me feel wet, just a nuisance on my goggles. Again, wind was not a factor except for the short piece going south on Snelling. 1 w 3 m runners.

A grey morning and cool temps made for a lonely hike. Nobody else was out. We checked out the remnants of the hobo camp at Lexington and Energy Park, it's definitely gone. Looks like they had some sort of bicycle chop shop going, left some wheels behind, more junk than anything. It finally starts feeling more like fall, cooler. But the coming 10 days seem to have more mild weather in store for us.
