Onion to Sioux River Intervals
7:09 AM; Washburn, WI

4.7 °C; Cloudy
Walk/run intervals, 10 x 200 short/quick steps to teach my glutes to engage. Seems to work, they feel like they had a workout. Gorgeous morning sky over the lake, a sliver of orange between Madeline and Long Island and dark clouds overhead. A few fishermen and mergansers, very quiet otherwise.

Finally met up with neighbor Mike, who showed me the survey stakes forming the property corners between his, ours and Dave's property. Looks like we have a sizable portion of the old-growth white cedar grove. We came back through Joan's property.

Took the shortcut because I was in a hurry to leave town. Not much in terms of temperature gain in spite of the sun. One guy passed me taking a different route, based on his speed and the type of bike he was riding I suspect he had electric assist. Cheater ;-) I was closing in on him again on Como but I had to turn S on Snelling. Oh well ...

Cooler but I was dressed appropriately. Unlike yesterday, I was wearing gloves and glad for them. In spite of early start, there were a good number of cyclists out and too many runners to count, looked like two running clubs were active. Did not count any individuals today. Tooth or gum ache subsiding, I am using a home remedy, chamomile tea. During my ride, I had the teabag packed over the sore area. Feels a lot better, pain and swelling are down but too early to tell whether it is because of the ibuprofen or the medicinal herb. I am hoping for the best.

Cool, bright afternoon. did not get much warmer since this morning. I even wished I had worn my gloves for the hike. we did the longer stretch and were able to walk by the construction site for the bike trail connector between Dunlop and Lexington. Last I saw was stakes in the ground and now excavations and compacting is well under way. Walked mostly, ran a little. All in all a great walk.

Cool afternoon, the sun had many people outside. Very crowded around the Stone Arch Bridge and Mill City Ruins. I had to focus too much on pedestrian and bike traffic to be able to focus on counting runners but they were out.

Jumped in my jammies right into the Stohlquist Amp dry suit, donning heavy wool socks before and Teva water shoes after putting the drysuit on. As good as any day to test the dry suit and the new Werner Corryvrecken paddle. Calm conditions at 4 °C. No neoprene gloves so I used my Craft ski gloves. The super light paddle transferred power well, with almost twice the surface of my current paddle. I warmed up quickly and started sweating. The drysuit quickly turned into a Dune planet stillsuit, used by the people of Arrakis, with the distilled water collecting around my wrist, inside the rubber cuffs. Unfortunately, I did not have the tube to recycle by drinking it ...

St. Peter Dome and Morgan Falls
12:01 PM; St. Peter's Dome

14.1 °C; Partly cloudy
Decided to head for St. Peter's Dome State Natural Area S of Ashland, WI. When we got there, we found signs stating that the park was closed, access "Strictly Prohibited" citing all manner of CFR sections. Somewhat apprehensive, we decided to take a chance and ignore the warning, hiking in. As we progressed, me upfront, being yanked up by my trusty canines attached to my midriff, the few steep downhill and rocky leaf-covered sections being rather scary. Arriving at the top, we decided that any fine promulgated under CFR would be well worth it. The dogs objected loudly to being tied up to a tree while we enjoyed the view, but I did not want to take a chance of them launching themselves into the abyss, taking me with them. On the way back, the dogs helped me vault over various obstacles and arrive at Morgan Falls. just gorgeous. Since we blazed the trail, many others had started up, ignoring the sign that so worried us and we made our escape without punishment.
