Long hike with the dogs. Started with some back 40 exploration. Then along the overgrown RR grade to where a path crosses the wetland separating lake shore from Hwy 13. Down to the Sioux, along the beach. Walked out onto a sandbank that had formed off shore from the Sioux, wanted to join the dogs hiking through some shallow water and needed to retreat because of quicksand. On the way back, I saw the remains of a deer in shallow water, fully submerged. Only the head was missing, as was most of the fur and much of the meat had been eaten away. Glad I didn't encounter it while swimming. Made a detour because I saw some walkers in the distance with a small dog. Did not want to tempt my guys, who were off leash. Good hike!

Coffee run to Dunn Bros this morning, did not want to come in too late so decided to give the Hiawatha LRT trail another try. Even made it across the bridge at 5th St. But from there, what a pain to make it to 10th and Nicollet. Will take Park Ave. next time when I am in this situation.

The usual walk, felt a few raindrops towards the end. Dogs have started to collect some wood ticks, especially Roux. Maybe the ticks like that shorter fur better or I simply have an easier time finding them. Even find them occasionally on myself.

Riding in short-sleeved tee and reflective vest this morning, arrived at work sweating profusely. Summer conditions. Sounds like the rest of the week won't be as balmy but still temps above average. Fast rider passed me on 10th, also heading into TPC, chatted with him, Chris from Strategy, riding in from Plymouth.

Just the regular walk. Something's definitely up at the old Kopper's Coke Company office building at Hamline and Pierce Butler. Heavy earth moving equipment is undertaking excavation and the trees along the expressway have been taken down. Kind of bummed about that, I guess I won't be seeing woodchucks lying in their shade any longer ...
On the way back, I mused why Americans (or lawn aficionados anywhere) do not like creeping charlie. I think it's an ideal ground cover.

Nice ride home, later than usual. Lots of people getting out of the bike room, on the roads and trails. Chatted with one colleague who wanted to reconfirm the route home I had suggested for her last year. On the UMN campus connector another rider caught up with me at the Energy Park Dr light and we chatted for a while till we split at Como Ave.. His route is UMN to Roseville. A little headwind but not too bothersome.

Needed to move after dinner and on a whim too MTB on my usual dog walk route. Fun! Super summer-like weather, just incredible! Put tomato seedlings into jiffy cups, Not ready to put outdoor yest, don't turst this early summer. But I hate to put the plas back into the basement, on warming mat, it's colder in basement than outside ...
Took shortcut through walk-through alley, glad I did, saw Chris, who introduced me to some new neighbors, Sarah and Nick, on Pascal and Josh on Holton. Josh is brewing 40 gallons of Koelsch for is upcoming wedding, I hope there will be some left ;-)
