I was hoping for a nice crust ski across the Chequamegon Bay; if I had been out a couple hours earlier, it would have been. Crossed some other tracks that barely scratched the surface while mine went in about 5 cm with every push. Poor Mellie, who wasn't even supposed to come along had it even worse than me, breaking in deeper than 5 cm with every step. That's what you get for running away from Lynn. I found this to be harder than the Birkie evne though it did not have any climbs. But it was one of those ideas I had been tossing around for a while and I'll do it again when conditions are suitable.

Above freezing this morning! And glad that I didn't have to run in rain they're predicting for later today. Not much to report, Mellie got to do the run from the edge of Como Park all the way to the Hamline pedestrian bridge off leash. Happy dog obedient dog, except one corner near Gabe's by the Park where she had to sniff out something. I had to yell for her to follow, it seems very much to the delight of a young woman in a bus shelter. Sped up on the pedestrian bridge ramp, other than that an easy run. Joints are starting to feel better, muscles are certainly back in running mode.

Nice quick run through Como GC. They finally gave up on grooming the ski trails. Very nice running except where the snow had melted and frozen into solid ice. Didn't feel as cold because of the light winds.

Met Dayton and Paul for some spring skiing at Hyland. Spring is a relative term this year for the temps are still rather like January. My fingers were freezing this morning. On the up-side, the man-made loop at Hyland was in awesome shape, fresh corduroy as far as the eye could see. And wicked fast!. Dayton had spotted an owl when he got there and showed us where it was perched.
