Very weird, the GPS track from today's activity looks TOTALLY different from what I actually did. Start point should have been the same as the finish point and I did not get anywhere near anything N of Star Route Rd. My workout was essentially the same as that of Dec 29, 2013. Garmin Connect notes about 16.3 km, which is also the time in my 910XT history screen. This feels correct. SportTracks on the other hand insists on 19.48 km. The only other time I experienced this type of a malfunction was three years back at the Sisu Ski Fest in Ironwood, then with a FR 305. Lake Superior wormhole or too much iron ore around? Go figure. Will keep a close eye on the device.

I posted this to Garmin's FB page. curious if they'll keep it on or remove it and if they will respond.

That being said, it was a nice ski in less than ideal conditions. Only partial grooming with very soft conditions and Jolly Long and Anchor with a good 5 cm of powder on top. Made the workout all the better! I am curious how it will be for the Book Across the Bay tonight.

Laid back event, self seated for waves, seemed to work very well. Liked the laid back way everything was set up. Started from three rows behind the elites, seemed where I needed to be. Passed quite a few people in typical LES conditions. Most of the luminaries were on, it looked very cool how they faded into the distance in driving snow. Cheeks felt cold but took no damage. Glad for the Casco shields, really did a nice job protecting my eyes without fogging.
A few times people were drafting behind me and kept stepping on my poles, very annoying. Yelled for them to pass but they stayed behind. One guy passed and fell flat on his face. I had to restrain myself from yelling "serves you right."
I made a tactical error after catching up to a group of about half a dozen and passing them with 4k remaining. they passed me back with 2k left, nothing I could do. Impressive moment: for a while around km 6 or so I heard this flapping noise. Turned out to be the top snow shoer. I passed him but heard him for quite a while behind me, he ended up finishing only 7 seconds behind me, wow!
Very happy with my result. I also like that solid red intensity bar, shows that I put in a good effort. Technique is still my Achilles heel, but I was happy to do some extended stretches in V2, especially at the beginning. Even a month ago I wouldn't have been able to do so.

Bummed out I forgot to re-insert the SD Card into my camera. Cool view of the luminaries and starting area.

L3 early morning ski, this should be Birkie effort. Skate deck was very lightly overblown in exposed areas. The only place I felt the slow-down from hitting patches was on the steep slope down by the tow rope. Classic tracks were filled up. Pisten Bully was warming up through my entire session and began grooming as I finished my last loop. Had two laps to my self and shared the last lap with a snow shoer who was moving at a pretty good clip. He was about 1/2 lap ahead of me, caught a glimpse of him only once, otherwise it was his tracks I saw. Thought it might have been Darryn.

Wow, what a difference one day makes. Much milder temps completely changed the character of the snow. Softer, the surface slightly churned up by the skiers and Mellie occasionally sinking in. Great outing, lots of folks taking advantage of the warm weather. we did three laps, last one Mellie was getting tired. But she was a trooper. Saw one Sisu guy from afar, couldn't tell who, we wave to each other. And Jim C's kid was out, great skier at 15. Mellie had to take a pit stop early in the second lap, other than that smooth sailing.

GearJunkie CORDURA Most Durable Person
I can't believe it, I won the darn thing. Entered the GearJunkie/CORDURA contest on a whim, with a picture that I felt I couldn't post anywhere else for fear it would give a heart attack to my elderly aunties. And CORDURA picked me from a clutch of worthy contestants! Adventure packed weekend with GearJunkie's Bend, Oregon crew is coming my way!

Met up with John Baker for an easy ski. Saw Kristin I. and her husband Matt before the ski and Greg W and spouse after. Not groomed today, cold (especially in wind-exposed areas) but surprisingly good glide. Felt very good throughout. Overboots and eye shield are a good investment. Good to see the MYSL kids out there, braving the cold!
