Long Slow Distance today. Decided classic, taken a gamble not changing my now well worn grip tape. The start felt quite icy, but with an emphatic kick, I could get decent grip. Found the classic-only stretches less icy than the combined trails but it worked well. The steeper downhills on the frozen corduroy were not comfortable but I survived. A highlight was the classic only climb on Seagull. Gorgeous winter landscape while following this not too steep ravine. Jolly Long tracks weren't that great but workable. Only had to use herring boning on a couple very short stretches, one on Lower Sugar Bush South. Encountered a frazzled looking family of three while entering that trail section from Jolly. Sure enough, there were multiple dimples along the steep downhill where they had wiped out.

Wanted to check out the dog trail on skate ski in anticipation of my next outing with Roux. Skat deck to the Anchor-Jolly Long intersection was a little soft, beyond that, it was very firm and almost icy. At the sugar shack, I saw my friend Matt E, with his friend Mark. He shared his ski project with me, connecting Mt. Ashwabay with Valhalla on Cty C. He did an exploratory snow mobile ride yesterday and is planning to groom for classic, soon. Matt estimates it to be about 21 km to Valhalla from Ashwabay parking lot, so it should be possible to do an out and back. He was super excited, which is contagious! Also saw Liz on the trail and then again at the parking.
