Orienteering race 59:53 [4] 8.6 km (6:58 / km) +170m 6:20 / km

QOC Greenbelt Blue - was on second shift of beginner instruction again so didn't start until a few minutes after 1:30pm and got pretty much the full benefit of the day's elephant tracks through the remaining 5 to perhaps as much as 8 in places inches of snow. Though not on the bulk of the fairly long leg to 4, on which it looked as though most people took the option to the right with most of the running on a paved road - I won the leg but by a slightly smaller margin over Ken in percentage terms than on the course overall so maybe I can claim a moral victory but not that I necessarily improved on the wisdom of crowds when I diverged from it.

ETA: now that I notice how much time Ken lost getting to 1 (seemingly understated by the split analysis), it seems fair to conclude the right and left routes to 4 were almost identically good if executed competently.

Orienteering 20:00 [1]

MIght as well take credit for control pickup/cooldown. Just 6 controls with Sam dropping me off near the southernmost one so a pretty light assignment, even with the last two being water controls.

Yoga 58:00 [1]

Made it to yoga class at the library almost on time this morning.

Running 1:13:00 [3]

Same route as Thursday with apparently a bit more energy. At least, I don't think external conditions had become significantly more conducive to speed. Quite pleasant out, though not as warm as anticipated for the orienteering tomorrow.

Running 1:17:00 [3]

Back to pedestrian activity in Rock Creek Park in normal-sized shoes. Pretty slow but intensity 3 seems right given the uneven, energy-absorbing and occasionally slippery footing. Quite lovely sunny day - too bad my focus had to be strongly on what I was about to step on and therefore rarely on the scenery for more than an instant at a time.

Snowshoeing 2:55:00 [2]

Another outing in Rock Creek Park, with more time on trails or retracing my own tracks from the day before but also a long slog breaking trail or going where only one or two people had preceded me on the Valley Trail, as far as the park police station.
